111: Be the TRANSITIONAL CHARACTER for your family... and your generational line! (Whew! This concept got me thinking!!! So let's talk about it!)
Whew!
Have you ever come across a concept or a phrase and it just stuck with you??? As the author Robert Fulghum once described it as "An idea that sticks like a burr to your mental sock!"
Well... THAT happened to me recently when I came across the phrase: "A Transitional Character."
It was coined by the late Carlfred Broderick who was a well-respected marriage and family scholar at the University of Southern California.
Broderick described it this way:
"A 'Transitional Character' is one who, in a single generation, changes the entire course of a lineage."
Now... he was quick to point out that those changes might be for good or ill. BUT... as an example... he pointed to a number of scenarios where someone who grew up in an abusive and/or emotionally destructive environment but they were somehow able to find a way to shift things and not pass that on to THEIR children.
As Broderick was know for saying, "They break the mold."
Yup... LOVE that.
How about YOU?
