A few years ago, I was talked into implementing a flat rate commission at my salon. At first it seemed like a great idea, but after a while my new stylists couldn't keep up & my experienced stylists plateaued.
That's when I realized that sliding scales work. This structure allows you to keep a healthy profit margin, even when you have stylists who are just starting out. It ensures that you’re not overcompensating for services that are bringing in lower revenue, but also that they are still fairly compensated for their effort.
It's a win-win for salon owners & stylists.
