219 – Nashville: Long, Hot & Slick

Listen Later

A tripleheader at the recently reopened Nashville Superspeedway is in the books. T.J. Majors, Freddie Kraft and Brett Griffin are in studio to react to all that went down in the Cup Series’ return to Music City. Plus, former NFL player Bernard Pollard Jr. joins the show after his first NASCAR experience at Nashville.

The combination of slick track conditions and an engine package with increased horsepower created a race that resembled old school NASCAR. Find out why the spotters left Nashville pleased with the on-track product. Plus, hear their impressions of the facility that hadn’t hosted a race in a decade.

While the racing exceeded expectations, concerns about traffic leading into the facility and long lines at concession stands were cause for concern. The guys share their thoughts on problems Nashville will have to fix before NACAR returns. Plus, hear Brett explain why its so important for tracks to provide the best fan experience possible right now as momentum is built.

Then the crew turns to the topics of the weekend, leading off with Chase Elliott’s spotter Eddie D’Hondt being reinstated and returning to the spotters stand. Silly season kicked off on Friday afternoon as Kaulig Racing announced it purchased two charters to start its Cup program. Hear details about the big news and how it impacts the rest of the field eyeing charters for 2022.

Bubba Wallace was not happy over the radio on Sunday after running over brake rotor parts that caused his tire to go down and turned the car around. His spotter Freddie tells us what happened and who was at fault for not seeing debris on the track before the No. 23 car hit it.

Confusion surrounding the choose rule caused panic on the spotters stand ahead of the Stage 3 restart in Sunday’s race. T.J. and Freddie explain what happened when NASCAR decided to restart the next lap after the front runners passed the choose zone.

Hendrick Motorsports hasn’t lost a Cup race in 41 days as Kyle Larson dominated the field once again at Nashville. The gang discusses Larson’s impressive feat, how he is putting himself in championship contention and whether they think anyone can beat him.

While Larson celebrated, five loose lug nuts led to a disqualification for his teammate Chase Elliott. The spotters explain how it was possible to have so many loose lug nuts and how teams typically game the system mid-race. Then the guy’s debate whether they would prefer a crew chief suspension or disqualification given the No. 9 team’s penalty.

A new manufacturer could be joining NASCAR in the near future. Hear which it may be and what it could mean for the sport in the coming years.

Bernard Pollard Jr. joins the show next and tells all about his first experience at a NASCAR race. He was named honorary starter for the Cup race but his fear of heights may have gotten the best of him. The guys banter with him about what they saw him do before the race started. Then, he talks his impressions of being at the track on race day, speaking with Mr. Hendrick and word of his NFL comeback.

In Reaction Theatre, T.J. hears the dumbest call ever, the guys feel sympathy for Quin Houff and a Ward Burton impersonation leads to a hilarious story between him and Freddie over the weekend.
