Brett Griffin, T.J. Majors and Freddie Kraft are back from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and its inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race with plenty to discuss. Brett came home a winner as a chaotic finish allowed AJ Allmendinger to capitalize for his second career Cup victory. Hear Brett detail how the road course ace put himself in position to win and what the first Cup triumph means for Kaulig Racing.
While Allmendinger and Brett celebrated, the rest of the crew fell victim to the troublesome curb in Turn 6. T.J. shares what happened to Joey Logano as he smashed into the tire barriers while running near the front when the curb came up. Freddie explains his feelings towards the penalty Bubba Wallace received for avoiding the remaining “ramp” in the Turn 6 chicane during Overtime.
After multiple cars hit the orange turtle in Turn 6 during the first lap of Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, the track removed the turtle ahead of Sunday’s event. Was that the right call? Or did it invite drivers to push the limits of that corner even more? The guys debate.
Curbs became part of the story again in the Cup Series race as Turn 6 proved troublesome throughout the event. On a late restart, disaster struck as the curb shredded cars and caused a major pileup at the front of the field. Should NASCAR have thrown a yellow flag the lap prior? How can this situation be fixed? The crew weighs these questions after the costly mistake.
The final restart created more drama as Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe went head-to-head into the first corner. As Briscoe was forced wide, Hamlin secured the lead. However, Briscoe cut back across the grass onto the track and was penalized. He then spun leader Hamlin and both cars were then out of contention. The gang discusses whether Briscoe knew about the penalty or not and whether taking out Hamlin was a clean or dirty move.
Due to the event running long, the broadcast shifted from NBC to NBC Sports Network. Why did that need to happen? The guys explain the decision making behind the move.
The charter market remains hot and the latest rumors involve 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports. Could a deal be in the works for 23XI to secure more charters? Hear a few theories on the next silly season dominos to fall.
In Reaction Theatre, fans let it all out in response to the curb chaos, big wrecks, Briscoe spinning Hamlin and much more. Plus, was that Toby Keith who called in and played a song?
The guys also discuss other on track problems from Sunday including a car oiling down the entire surface and a safety truck on track during qualifying. As the playoffs approach, Richard Childress Racing’s two cars are battling for the final spot. The guys discuss how they expect the teammates to race each other in the coming weeks.
