Welcome to Episode 23 of the Emotional Eats Podcast!
Do you often say yes when you really want to say no? Do you find yourself struggling with emotional eating, especially when resentment builds up after saying yes too often? We'll explore this fascinating link between people-pleasing, boundaries, and emotional eating and share some insights from both my clients and personal experiences.
People pleasing is really putting other peoples’ needs in front of your own. Being kind is great, but when it becomes something that makes you resentful and exhausted, it’s time to understand why you always say yes. I share how sometimes your past childhood experiences could have set you up to struggle with setting boundaries. As an adult, you can assess whether these behaviors still serve you or if it's time for a change.
Emotional eating often ties into people-pleasing and the inability to set boundaries. When we commit to things we don't want to do, resentment builds, and emotional eating becomes a coping mechanism. Suppressing emotions to avoid conflict can also lead to negative feelings and eating as a temporary escape.
I share strategies to break the cycle of emotional eating tied to people-pleasing and a lack of boundaries. I also share examples of phrases you can use to kindly and directly say no.
