Welcome to Episode 25 of the Emotional Eats Podcast!
In this episode I am sharing emotional and physical reasons why it's a bad idea to skip meals after overindulging. Listen in to hear my own experiences with restriction after eating “bad” foods. I share about my shame and punishing myself by not eating after indulging.
During the episode, I’ll share 5 reasons why it isn't a wise approach and why embracing intuitive eating principles can make a positive impact on your mind and body. Because of diet culture, it has become automatic and I feel for you if you experience this.
By restricting, you're essentially perpetuating the never-ending cycle of binge and restrict, making it incredibly hard to break free.
Ignoring your hunger cues sends a message to your body that you don't trust it, which makes it really hard to have a healthy relationship with food.
Skipping meals can lead to unstable blood sugar levels, causing mood swings and sluggishness, ultimately driving you towards unhealthy food choices…again. See the cycle?
It's essential to understand that skipping meals is a form of self-punishment that doesn't contribute to a positive relationship with food.
I will explain all of this in this episode. Long-term success with food should be about progress, not perfection. Remember to be kind to yourself and tune in to your body's needs. Food freedom is attainable, and it begins with letting go of guilt and embracing self-compassion.
