In this episode I cover three main mistakes many parents, therapists and teachers unknowingly fall into that makes it harder for toddlers to learn how to speak.
I've learned over the years in private practice, that once your toddler starts using words, we often forget they are still in the "process" of developing phrases and sentences.
Learning to "listen" and learning to "understand" are two different processes.
We may assume they can "keep up" with our rapid speech rate, and when they can't... they often shut down.
We all need reminders to SLOW DOWN, give some wait time, and be patient.
Take a listen with an open mind. Be willing to consider making a few changes just might open your toddler up to chatting more and melting down less.
I know you're feeling overwhelmed most days, just like your toddler.
Give you and your family some space to relax and truly enjoy the moments these summer days can provide - if you let them.
