Welcome to Episode 31 of the Emotional Eats Podcast!
If you’re a midlife woman anywhere in the menopause transition, this is such a great episode for you. I have had guests talk about perimenopause, but Dr. Jay brings us another perspective and if you like the science part, you’re in for a treat.
Dr. Jay is a Functional medicine doctor, also a Naturopathic physician & has an MS in Biochemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill. His expertise lies in assisting women, typically between 40 to 65, and helps them navigate the challenges of hormonal shifts in midlife. He's passionate about empowering women through knowledge, helping them understand that these changes aren't indicative of being broken but rather a shift in balance that can be healed.
I really appreciate that he has experience in both conventional medicine and Eastern medical practices. Dr. Wrigley has crafted a holistic approach, bringing women the best of both worlds.
One of my favorite discoveries in the episode was learning more about the connection between estrogen and progesterone and between cortisol and progesterone. Dr. Jay really shows the big picture of the interconnectedness of hormones and health.
Dr. Wrigley also touches on the challenges women face in seeking medical guidance, often receiving standard tests that might overlook subtle hormonal imbalances. His dietary recommendations for women navigating perimenopause and menopause involve a focus on higher protein diets to manage blood sugar imbalances and cravings, aiming to create a more stable biochemical environment.
Dr. Wrigley really cares about his patients, helping them feeling empowered, get to the root cause and find more holistic ways to navigate this phase of their lives with confidence and vitality.

My favorite evening drink (or dessert) is Organifi Gold Chocolate. It is like a "healthy dark hot chocolate". With reishi mushrooms and lemon balm extract for calming and relaxing, it's perfect in the afternoon or evening. Gold also has superfoods like tumeric and ginger. It's nonGMO, vegan and organic. You can check out all of Organifi's healthy products at https://www.organifishop.com/ and make sure to use the code: KIMH for 20% off.
