Well, hello anxiety with Dr Jodi Richardson

69. Overcoming School Refusal Part One w/ John Chellew, School Refusal Clinic Bayside

Listen Later

School refusal is a tremendous challenge for kids, teenagers, their families and their schools. Often misunderstood, it’s not usually a matter of not wanting to go to school; most want to be back in the classroom with their friends; they just feel so overwhelmed that they can’t. Anxiety is one of the challenges that often underpins the overwhelming discomfort that accompanies walking through the school gate, getting out of the car, or even leaving the house. It’s terribly distressing for the whole family, some parents forced to leave their jobs to take care of their child at home. In this episode, part one of a two part series, John Chellew, Founder of The School Refusal Clinic in Melbourne helps us understand what’s at the heart of school refusal, the important role of parents and the fun, unique approach he uses to change the lives of school refusers and their families.
