On today's episode of How'd She Do That? host Emily Landers welcomes Caroline Boykin onto the podcast!
Caroline is a professional artist with over 10 years of experience. While studying abroad in Florence, Italy, Caroline's passion for art was reignited and upon returning to the States she decided to pursue a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts. During a summer ceramics class, originally taken to fulfill requirements for her major, she fell in love with being on the potter’s wheel. With the encouragement of an amazing professor, her soul was lit on fire and she discovered her voice in this medium.
All of Caroline’s work is centered around the fragility in a moment. There can be joy and sadness and courage and fear all within a moment in time and in a breath of life. The subjects of female forms and flora are captured in the peak of the bloom and the second of a pose focusing on internal strength and external beauty. She creates these subjects in sporadic and impulsive mark making capturing movement and life. Texture, color, functionality, and line quality are all important aspects of her expressive artwork.
In this episode, Caroline shares the story of the early days of selling her first pieces of art, to the journey of taking on the next big step to open her own LLC and pursue her art full-time due to the growing requests for her work. She shares some of the greatest lessons she has learned along the way, including never settling and always knowing your worth. You won’t want to miss this lovely conversation, one you will likely want to send to a friend!
