So many times we hear about children being taken from their parents who are addicts, or one or both of the parents have died because of their addictions, or the parents just are not capable of caring for their children. There are many children in this situation these days. They are in foster care, or being raised by their grandparents or other relatives, or just not being cared for very well at all.
This week we are addressing the issue and offering resources and support for the children and the caregivers.
The interview is with Karen Moyer of the Moyer Foundation whose project is Camp Mariposa, a camp for kids 9-13 who attend for relief from some of their family situations, to get resources and some help from therapists, and just to have fun at camp. This is an interview that was done in 2013. On this show there is an update on the camp and other resources that Denise has found since the interview was originally done.
After listening to this show, to get additional resources and support for the children and caregivers and understand the severity of this problem, Denise suggests you listen to these past shows also, “What About the Little Children?” and “Unwinding at Camp Mariposa.“
