If you've been anywhere near the Equis Community Facebook page, you've heard rumblings of a new "program" coming out. It helps middle-class Americans (anyone, really) get out of debt much faster by simply rerouting their dollars through a "compound interest filter." And guess what? If you have a life insurance license, you can do this with people.

So, I thought I'd try it out. I set up a call with one of my clients. I scheduled a time that worked for them AND a specialist. And by the time we hung up the phone, I wrote my first D34L policy. Well, the specialist did technically, but hey, I did sit and listen, so that's a thing.

Anyway, two comments he made during the presentation caught my attention:

"I can't believe we're still talking about life insurance."

"Can I get one of these on my wife, too?"

So here it is. This podcast is the introduction (first of several, I'm sure) to help you understand and begin to wrap your mind around the program, which is based on the infinite banking concept.

Features and benefits. That's what sells, right?

Nope.

When you go in with a list of why your product is amazing, think about what's happening. You're talking about...YOU. It's your favorite subject, but not theirs. Your prospect has their own challenges to deal with and the last thing they want to hear is how great your product is. All it does is make you a "salesperson."

As agents, there's a simple way to rise above that. Ask enough questions until you have clarity on THEIR problem. Only then have you earned the right to present your solution. Sales isn't about what you have to offer. Sales is about if what you have to offer solves a problem in the mind of your prospect. Nothing more.

Shift your focus from YOU to THEM and watch more people say YES to you.

Every so often Equis Financial puts on a live event where all the agents across the country come together to network, celebrate, learn, grow and inspire each other. Thursday was one such event. Let's face it: leads are not cheap. Are they worth it? YES! But it cost money to generate a quality lead. As good as they are, they're not perfect. Anyone who has contacted a fresh lead and gotten squashed with a sour dose of rejection knows the sting.

I don't proclaim to be a scientist by any stretch of the imagination. I was an art student.

Good morning! This week, I'm diving into our family of insurance carriers. I break down each of them, some of their most common products, when I like to write for them and when/why sometimes I don't. Hopefully, this carrier knowledge can help you discover and select your favorites so you can improve your placement rate.

But a word of caution: don't let my list jade you. This is simply my observations and my experience. Yours may be different. As you work, you'll develop your own set of things you like and dislike most about each one. But hopefully, my perspective can help in some way.

Remember, at the end of the day, it's all about getting clients covered, so the right carrier is the one that will approve. :)
