This is episode 1,101 of the Arete Coach Podcast with host Severin Sorensen and guest Catherine Mattice, MA, SHRM-SCP. Catherine is an executive coach, SHRM Senior Certified Professional, consultant, mentor, and author of "Back Off, Your Kick Ass Guide to Ending Bullying At Work."

Catherine Mattice is the founder/CEO of Civility Partners (https://civilitypartners.com/) an HR consulting firm focused on helping organizations create respectful and positive workplace cultures. Her clients range from Fortune 500's to government, to nonprofit, to small business in a wide range of industries. She and her team have served the likes of Chevron, the Marine Corps, the American Red Cross, Stanford University and more. Catherine is an HR thought-leader – though she likes to say disrupter - and has appeared in such venues as USA Today, Entrepreneur, Bloomberg, CNN, NPR, and many other national news outlets as an expert. She’s also an award-winning speaker, blogger, and book author. Leadership guru, Ken Blanchard, called her first book, BACK OFF! Your Kick-Ass Guide to Ending Bullying at Work, “the most comprehensive and valuable handbook on the topic.”

She’s one of the nation’s true experts on the social and relational aspects of workplace bullying and harassment, and thus how to resolve these issues inside an organization. Catherine is also one of four founders of the National Workplace Bullying Coalition, a nonprofit focused on education and legislation about workplace bullying.

In this episode, we explore Catherine's journey into coaching and her passion for eliminating bullying in the workplace. We explore examples of workplace bullying in, its definitions, and how through HR interventions such as executive coaching can help toxic bosses and leaders see and understand their role in bullying, and she maps the way out for them. We explore the coaching content, questions, and challenges.
