In September 1968, 21-year-old Carol Jenkins was walking door to door in Martinsville, Indiana, selling encyclopedias. On one of her last stops, Carol told the woman who answered the door that two white men had been following and harassing her. As a Black woman, Carol was frightened. Thirty minutes later, Carol was found murdered.

Police were convinced they had their man when they connected a convicted murderer named Walter Graham Rowland to Olive. But then another man confessed, and a similar murder cast doubt on Rowland’s guilt. Was the right man put to death?

In June 2018, two Vietnamese tour guides named Sang Boi Nghia and Khuong Ba Le Nguyen were found stabbed to death in their Las Vegas hotel room in a random crime that occurred because of a faulty door lock.

Then, in July 2019, 38-year-old Amber Morris was found brutally murdered in her hotel room after she and her sister randomly met two men on the streets of Reno.
