Before you consider someone an ally it is important we examine their intentions and how such allies serve all parties. Allies need to be proactive in summoning and demonstrating change otherwise such voices become just loud noises. Remember it was the British Empire that came to Africa as  "Allies" and we all know how that ended up.

Setting boundaries not only lays the foundation of respect, but it also makes people aware of how far they are permitted to take things, therefore affording situations, conversations and controversial topics the respect and voice it deserves.

If you believe in the strength in our blackness and our history you have to believe in the strength of your own voice. Looking to others to be your mouthpiece is dangerous especially when discussing colorism, discrimination, oppression and racism within the black community. I am all for creating awareness irrespective of race, gender, or creed but after the awareness has been created what next.? Creating awareness should not then be taken as a license to overstep and give your opinion on issues that not only don't involve you but concern a community that are often maginalised and a community that continues to unpack the trauma of a painful history.
