"Hey God, do you even hear me?"

Have you ever asked that question or wondered why God can seem silent at times?  You are not alone.  In fact in this episode, Darren Hughes, Stage/Production Manager for Casting Crowns and church planter, has a conversation with me about times when he wondered what his next step should be.

Just because it SEEMS like God is silent doesn't necessarily mean He is being silent. God has a purpose for your life just like He has a purpose for Darren.  We don't always know why things happen the way they do, but if we trust that God is in control and live our lives that way, He WILL guide us according to His purpose.

Darren went to Mark Hall, lead singer for Casting Crowns, and his wife, Melanie Hall, tour manager for the band, for their insight into where God might be leading Darren and his family.  Their advice was basically to keep moving forward until God said otherwise.

Ultimately, God led Darren right where He wanted him and that place essentially saved Darren's life.

This week’s episode is titled, “Never Give Up!”—a theme that was instilled in today’s guest by her mother. You may have heard about Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, through his books, interviews, and articles. But you probably didn’t know that Truett attributed much of the success of Chick-fil-A to his wife, Jeanette.

I recently had the privilege of having a conversation with Trudy Cathy White, the only daughter of Truett & Jeanette Cathy. Trudy and I will be talking her new book, “A Quiet Strength” a memoir of her mother.

Throughout our conversation together, you will hear stories from Trudy about how Chick-fil-A really got started, the leadership principles that propel the organization, and the “secret sauce” behind the success of Chick-fil-A (hint: it’s has nothing to do with chicken), and really the secret to being successful in life.

We discuss the influence that we all have in life, how to leave your legacy, and living each day with purpose!

Trudy released a new book this spring, “A Quiet Strength: The Life and Legacy of Jeanette M. Cathy”.  We also talked about her book, which describes at not only a memoir of her mother, but also ‘shares Jeanette’s often unbelievable misadventures raising three children on the Cathy farm—from beekeeping fiascos to regularly chasing a pony, a parrot, and a monkey around her living room.’  Wow, and I thought I had a fun childhood!

Lori Prusnek and her family have experienced a parent's worst fears.

Lori is a professor of Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy (OT) began with a primary focus on the mental health aspect and treating the whole person, but slowly lost its way. Today, OT is recognizing the vital role that mental health is in providing therapy to the whole person. 

Lori's knowledge and training were tested with the loss of their child. Through that loss, Lori has found a deeper level of care and mental health as it relates to the person as a whole--not just the physical.

Lori shares the struggles she and her family faced, and how she continues to learn the importance of seeing people from a different perspective. No one knows what others are going through and part of her message is to be compassionate and understanding.

I recently sat down with Olympic gold medalist, Scott Hamilton, to talk about the challenges that he has faced in life.  From childhood illness to competing in figure skating and then his diagnosis of testicular cancer--the challenges continued for Scott but he learned to face those in a positive way with laughter and his strong faith in Jesus Christ.

Our nation is at a great divide on how best to handle the ongoing racial tension. Meanwhile, the protests, riots & looting, destruction of property, the call to defund law enforcement, and political finger-pointing continue.

Is it possible to find a real solution to deescalate tension and reconcile race relations?

This episode is not just for women or couples who are grieving an abortion, but it is also for the church. Often, those who are silently suffering post-abortion are filled with shame, regret, and pain.  They don't necessarily want anyone to know about their past for fear of rejection or judgment.

Toni Brubaker is the Executive Director at Heartbeat Hope Medical Pregnancy Center. Toni and her staff provide a confidential post-abortive recovery program that is offered in a group or individual setting. They walk participants through the healing process. Toni has also been the woman in the church pew carrying the guilt and shame of abortion.

Laurie Turnow is the Executive Director of the Women's Resource Center (WRC) of Hancock County. In her 21 years at WRC, Laurie has listened to and counseled many women considering abortion.

In this episode, Laurie shares some lies that women are told, and believe, about abortion.

Abortion can have a lifelong impact not only on the mother and baby but also on others who are involved. Contrary to some statistics that are out there, most women carry the guilt and shame of abortion with them throughout their lives.
