During alienation, many parents (if not all of them) experience disenfranchised grief; we feel isolated, judged, and unsupported during the most painful period of our lives.

It's been proven again and again that connection is an essential resource for those healing from trauma. HUMAN CONNECTION. Fellowship. Support. Family. Companionship. Friendship. However you want to say it, THIS is the single most effective ingredient to restoring our mental health. Having an environment to open up and share our feelings is the best therapy a person can have.

The thing is, when alienation happens, reaching out is the last thing most of us do. Due to the very nature of our predicament, we feel safe with very few people. It's not uncommon for us to either clam up or act out in anger/fear. This raises questions from our peers, and many times, we end up not receiving the support we so desperately need. Instead, we grieve alone.

In this episode I share with you what disenfranchised grief is, how it relates to parental alienation, other ways it might show up, and what you can do to manage your mind around it.

Studies have shown that when you experience a traumatic event, your likelihood and capacity to grow in one or more areas increases tremendously.  Further, when you experience a series of traumatic events (ongoing abuse or trauma) like the excruciating pain associated with alienation, it would make sense that the potential for transformation (and the extent or degree thereof) would increase even more.  

In this episode I share with you my thoughts on the stages you might be going thru (although pls keep in mind that there really is no official order to how you experience your grief).

Experiencing alienation (or any kind of grief, for that matter), we often feel battered by a plethora of uncomfortable experiences/emotions. So... the brain's tendency is to go into survival mode and either find something to feeling instead, or resist the feeling altogether. 

Here's the problem with that: When you  use a behavior (Netflix, alcohol, scrolling, weed, whatever) to cope, you end up making your life tolerable. And because this behavior is buffering your discomfort, you stay stuck in the same place -- often for years. The same habits, the same job, the same living situation, relationships... all because you"just needed to take the edge off" or thought something similar to the "pain was too much for me to handle without (said behavior)". And.... you end up drowning out your truest, deepest desires, because the brain has learned to get its dopamine hit with the quick and easy pleasures.

The average human brain has between 60-80,000 thoughts in a 24 hour period. Roughly 80% of those thoughts are negative (this is not taking into consideration any past abuse or complex trauma like parental alienation). 95% of these thoughts are repetitive (which means that many of these "neggy" suckers turn into sneaky little beliefs that infect your life).

Since your perception of the world is created by the thoughts that you think on a daily basis, it makes sense that you KNOW the kinds of thoughts that you are thinking and believing. Right?
