  • Mohammed bin Salman's Bio

Dr. Gregory Gause joins us to discuss the rise of Mohammad Bin Salman and the future of Saudia Arabia. Mohammad Bin Salaman (MBS) is the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. He is currently serving as the country’s deputy prime minister, chairman of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs and chairman of the Council of Political and Security Affairs. He is also the minister of defense – the world’s youngest at the time of his appointment. He is seen as the power behind the throne of his father, King Salman. He has led several reforms, which include regulations restricting the powers of the religious police, and lifted the ban on female drivers. His Vision 2030 program aims to diversify the Saudi economy through investment in non-oil sectors including technology and tourism. Despite making progress on domestic reforms, commentators and human rights groups have been vocally critical of his behavior. He is the primary architect of the war in Yemen which has claimed thousands of civilian lives due to indiscriminate bombing campaigns. War-induced famine and the Saudi led blockade has led to Yemen being on brink of starvation. In addition to all this, MBS has allegedly assassinated Washingon Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi bringing him closer to the status of global pariah. With all this negative press what does the future hold for this young crown prince? How did he even consolidate all this power?

Dr.Gregory Gause is the head of Department of International Affairs at the Bush School of Government & Public Service at Texas A&M. Dr. Gause has focused his research on the international politics of the Middle East, with a particular interest in the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf. He has published three books, the most recent of which is The International Relations of the Persian Gulf (Cambridge University Press, 2010). His articles have appeared in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Security Studies, Middle East Journal, and The National Interest, as well as in other journals and edited volumes.

  • Free Speech
The threat of being de-platform has become a very real thing in this world. We live in a society where you must walk on eggshells not offend people. This leads to people self-censoring themselves to avoid admonishment.
Classical Liberal, Sargon of Akkad, was recently kicked off the worlds largest membership platform for saying naughty language. Marc Lamont Hill was fired from CNN for using “aggressive rhetoric” towards particular nation-state.
There are many more examples, however, the most troubling thing about this is that they were given no specific reason why they were de-platformed. It seems that it was only just an arbitrary decision.
Now we have a pair of popular internet social and political commentators ditching Patreon over its hate speech rules. Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson are raising money to create an alternative solution.
The question is -If they succeed in creating a new platform, will it fulfill its promise to its users?
Today we discuss the problems with censorship and slander.
Oh yeah, we also talk about the economic problems in South Africa. South African lawmakers agreed to amend their constitution, making way for land expropriation without compensation. Most of the land is still in the hands of the white minority, traditional leaders and South Africa’s elite.
We explain why removing farm land from a highly skilled labor force is very misguided.

  • Child Soldiers
Breaking down the latest in international news and geopolitics. Champion of human rights, Saudi Arabia, is using a nifty little tactic in the war in Yemen. They are recruiting child soldiers from Darfur. Thousands of soldiers from the conflict-ridden Darfur in Sudan have taken up arms to fight the mean old Iran back Houthis. These families have a strong monetary incentive to send their children to war. The going rate per hired soldier is estimated to be about $10,000.  These incentives are so strong that families will bribe officials to send as many of their kids over as possible. Nefarious acts like this are exactly the reason why Saudi Arabia is losing the Middle East Cold War against Iran. They have no natural allies and a weak military. These factors make them resort to hiring mercenaries to fight their wars. These mercenaries range from violent extremist, “to moderate rebels”,  to child soldiers. On the flip side, Iran has many loyal allies in the Middle East. Despite being economically suppressed by sanctions and having smaller oil reserves, they are able to call upon their clients for support. • Moderate Rebels
    Bro History
    Moderate Rebels
Today we discuss the Syrian Civil War in more detail. The Syrian rebels were the armed wing of the opposition to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. They first emerged on the scene after the Syrian Arab Spring. However, they do not represent the whole of Syria’s diverse opposition. Though some rebels seek liberty from the Assad regime that has been in power since the early 1970s, others are paid guns that have been imported into Syria to cause chaos. These hired guns have been responsible for some of the most heinous war crimes of the war. Syria lost control of her borders at the beginning of the war, so many extremist groups were able to just walk over the border of Syria and Iraq and dissolve into the ranks of rebel factions. In response to Donald Trumps’s announcement to withdraw from Syria, many of these rebels are surrendering to Syrian authorities. This leaves us with the question, was the U.S protecting some of these more nefarious actors in Syria?
