Bucknuts Morning 5: An Ohio State athletics podcast

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day held a lengthy Zoom call with the media on Thursday and Patrick Murphy joins Dave Biddle to discuss the high points from Day on today's show. The Buckeyes' boss is confident in the depth at running back. And also had glowing things to say about right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere. Also, Day was asked about Bucknuts' report regarding a beef with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, but declined to speak about it.

What else stood out from Day's call with reporters? And what stands out about Ohio State's 2020 football schedule, which was released on Wednesday? The Friday 5ish has that and much more.

Ohio State is putting the finishing touches on the top-ranked recruiting class in the 2021 cycle. Is there a Pennsylvanian still ready to join the fold? An NFL legacy target who makes us think of Clemson star Isaiah Simmons?

We are still anxiously awaiting the unveiling of the Big Ten's 2020 football schedule, which could come down any moment. In the meantime, we tell you what we are hearing on that front. Bill Kurelic joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus:

* How strong is the crop of 2022 recruits from the state of Ohio? The group is obviously led by Gabe Powers who committed to the Buckeyes on Saturday. But how does this class compare to recent classes from Ohio?

* Looking out of state in the 2022 class, what is the latest on athletes Keon Sabb and Dasan McCullough?

* What is Bill hearing from high school football coaches? Are they optimistic there will be a season this fall?

* If there is no HS football this year in Ohio, how would that affect recruits?

All of that and more is coming your way on the Tuesday 5ish.

On Saturday, Ohio State landed the No. 1 recruit in the state of Ohio in the 2022 class, Gabe Powers from Marysville. He is also ranked as the No. 2 outside linebacker and the No. 45 overall prospect in the country. Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle on today's show to talk about Powers becoming a Buckeye. Plus, what will the 2020 Big Ten football schedule look like and when will it be released? Will it be any day now?

All of that and more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish.

What is the 2020 season going to look like? Lots of conference games in the Big Ten ... and the ACC ... and the SEC ... and the ... you get the picture. All have followed the Big Ten's lead. What does that mean for scheduling and how we determine who gets to hold up a trophy later on? Could it mean Ohio State plays Michigan in September? The People's Champ - Matt Baxendell - is here to opine on that and a Steve Wiltfong Crystal Ball turned in for a recruit in a place we don't often see Buckeyes..
