    In this episode of the Race to the White House, we take a look at Tuesday’s presidential debate between US President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden. The debate, which is generally used by the candidates to voice their vision for the country, was chaotic and messy. Both candidates traded charges at each other, it was more of rhetoric than substance. There were four pre-decided topics for the debate – the candidates' records, coronavirus pandemic response, the Supreme Court, the economy and voting issues.   • SEBI probing Gati founder

    MK Agarwal, former promoter chairman of logistics company Gati, is being probed by market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for alleged related party transactions and siphoning off funds. 

    This comes after his wife Neera and sons Dhruv and Manish told SEBI that he had diverted company funds to private ventures.

  • Indian economy: Manufacturing PMI soars in September

    With increased relaxation of the Covid-led shutdowns, the manufacturing sector is gaining momentum in September, as the Purchasing Managers’ Index for September rose to 56.8, against 52 in August. This reading is the highest since January 2012.

    The health of the sector showed improvement with accelerated increases in new orders and production, said IHS Markit. Exports bounced back, after six successive months of contraction, while inputs were purchased at a sharper rate and business confidence strengthened.

  • Reliance Retail raises additional Rs 1,875 crore from Silver Lake's co-investors

    Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd (RRVL), a subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL), has raised an additional Rs 1,875 crore from co-investors of Silver Lake. This is the second raising by the company that was raised in a single day. Earlier during the day, RRVL raised Rs 3,675 crore from General Atlantic.

    This latest investment values Reliance Retail at a pre-money equity value of Rs 4.285 lakh crore.

  • Centre extends BPCL EoI deadline

    The Centre has extended the deadline for the submission of expression of interest for the privatisation of state-run oil refiner Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd to November 16. The previous deadline was the September 30.

    The government seeks to privatise BPCL by selling its 52.98 per cent stake to a strategic buyer. BPCL is India’s third biggest oil refiner and the second largest fuel retailer.
