The Penn State football team has used the first two games of the regular season to work on itself while racking up wins in the non-conference season. How has that work gone so far? We'll discuss the best and the worst of it today on the BWI Live Show. We'll outline which freshmen are on their way to burning their redshirts, which players are stock up and which are stock down. Plus, we'll outline the areas the team needs to improve in the final non-conference game against Villanova on Saturday.

 Penn State practice preview and freshman report

Penn State opens the doors of the Lasch practice facility today for another week of open viewing for the media. What are we monitoring this week? We'll discuss the things we're looking for tonight. Also, we'll outline which freshman have participated through two games to learn who is on their way to burning a redshirt and who are being held in reserve for later in the season or next year. 

Stock up/Stock Down and Best Bets

It's only been two games, but the position battles that extended from training camp into the regular season are starting to come to a close. With the final non-conference game of the season looming on Saturday, it's the last chance for players to put their best foot forward and make a case for more playing time or a move up the depth chart. 

We'll outline the players who are struggling and those who are surging through two games. 

Next, we'll give you Greg Pickel's best best of the week. He'll pick a game he likes, the game of the week and the Penn State game this weekend to give his take on the best bets over at Bet MGM

Penn State vs. Villanova preview: What's left to work on?

The Nittany Lions face Villanova this weekend and, as we mentioned earlier, the team has more work to do on polishing its offense and defense before the conference slate begins at the end of the month. 

We'll preview the things that the team can work on against Villanova, given what the Wildcats like to do on both sides of the ball, and what Penn State has shown it needs to continue working on.

The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team defeated FIU 34-0 in what was a 20-0 game in the fourth quarter. The team poured on 14 late fourth-quarter points to blow the game open and make the game feel like a bigger defeat than it felt for most of the game. On today's BWI Live Show, we'll discuss the game, Penn State head coach James Franklin's comments about it since then, and then preview the upcoming week.

Penn State vs. FIU Recap

Penn State didn't secure a "good" win over non-conference opponent FIU on Saturday, as the offense struggled to dominate in a way that fans would like. The team managed just 10 points in the first half and struggled to execute big plays consistently on offense. 

We'll discuss the positives and negatives from both sides of the ball during the game and how those things played out in front of everyone on Saturday. 

Between the lines

Franklin spoke after the game about his team's performance and then took more questions from the media on Monday during his 40-minute press confernece previewing Villanova. We'll discuss the most interesting comments he made this week in our weekly "Between the Lines" segment. 

Today, we'll discuss his comments about the offense working on certain aspects of its attack during the non-conference season, stars overthinking their play, and an assessment of the linebackers and safeties in the new defensive scheme. 

Looking ahead

Finally, we'll end the show, looking at the upcoming week. What do we want to learn about the Nittany Lions in the final non-conference tune-up before the bye week and Oregon? We'll discuss that, plus your questions!

The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team once again struggled to put an inferior team away early on Saturday, defeating FIU but keeping its starters in throughout the game. Join the Labatt Postgame Show to find out what happend in the first half and what changed over into the second half that allowed the Nittany Lions to gain some separation and win the game. Penn State struggles to get into the end zone 

The Penn State offense put together 26 plays in its first three drives spanning the first and second quarters. That resulted in just seven points thanks to the team's decision to go for it on fourth down on the first and third drives, resulting in a turnover. 

While the team moved the ball, they once again struggled to hit big plays in the run or passing game. Allar underthrew a deep pass to Devonte Ross , which resulted in a pass interference call, and running back Nick Singleton had several big runs of ten-plus yards, but failed to convert several opportunities into explosive play touchdowns. 

Finally, Drew Allar hit Ross on a 42-yard touchdown pass into contested coverage. to put Penn State up by three scores. 

Defense pitches a shutout 

On the other side, the Penn State defense wasn't perfect, but they did pitch a shutout, allowing the offense time to grind out yards and touchdowns. Keyone Jenkins kept the team in the game with timely passing plays and conversions, including two fourth downs. Running back Kejon Owens also averaged over five yards per carry throughout the game, with a long of 21 yards. 

Freshman Chaz Coleman had another strong game, with three tackles, a pass breakup, a QB hit, and a tackle for a loss.

The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team takes on FIU on Saturday at noon in the second of a three-game non-conference slate to start the 2025 season. There was concern this offseason that it would be hard to attract top talent to Happy Valley in the first month of the season, given the team's opponents and the annual White Out Game's presence at the end of the month. However, after a strong first weekend, Penn State is poised to have another important weekend. Join the BWI Live Recruiting Show as recruiting reporters Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder discuss the important names planning to travel to Penn State this weekend.

From there, we'll dive into what we saw from Penn State's open practice on Wednesday night. We'll discuss what head coach James Franklin had to say afterward, including a status update on starters Zuriah Fisher and nickel defender Zion Tracy. 

Nevada visit recap and FIU Preview 

Last weekend, Penn State saw over 50 prospects join the team for the 46-11 win over Nevada to open the season. This week, several notable players are joining the program for the noon game against FIU. Snyder will discuss the feedback he got from key recruits who joined the program a week ago. Next, we'll discuss PA prospect Tavian Branch's decision to join the program for an official visit this weekend. 

Will Penn State get a flip this weekend? We'll discuss that and which other players are coming to the game this weekend. 

Snyder will also outline the important high school games coming this weekend that include Penn State targets and commits. 

FIU Preview

Finally, we'll discuss the game between Penn State and FIU on Saturday. We'll break down what we want to see from the Nittany Lions on Saturday and what sort of team they'll face in the Golden Panthers. Join us to give your score predictions to end the show!

How did the young Penn State defensive ends perform against Nevada?

Part of the conversation coming out of the game against Nevada is that, aside from Dani Dennis-Sutton, the young Penn State defensive ends were bad in the opening game. 

Is that true? We reviewed the film and will outline where Jaylen Harvey and Chaz Coleman played well, as well as where they struggled against the Wolf Pack offense.

The Penn State football team is 1-0 and now deep into its second week of the 2025 regular season. Today on the BWI Live Show, we'll take our last look back at Penn State vs Nevada. We'll also recap what Penn State head coach James Franklin had to say about his team in his weekly press conference on Monday following the win. The Penn State Nittany Lions football team defeated the Nevada Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon behind a dominating performance from the team's defense. Join the BWI Live Postgame Show immediately following the final whistle of the game. Penn State defense shows off its dominant streak 

Many openly wondered how the team would replace third-overall pick Abdul Carter on the defensive line. Not to be out-shined, senior Dani Dennis-Sutton domianted against the Nevada offensive line. Dennis-Sutton collected one sack, two tackles for loss a pass breakup, a QB hit and forced two fumbles in a dominant performance to start the year. 

Nevada was able to keep the game somewhat respectable through the first half, largely thanks to the legs of quarterback Chubba Purdy. Purdy rushed 14 times for 55 yards including an explosive run that resulted in a redzone trip and a field goal early. However, Penn State's stingy coverage unit gave up little through the air with Purdy staying under 100 yards passing until late in the fourth quarter when the second string entered the game. 

Offense plays efficient game 

Senior quarterback Drew Allar wasn't flashy, but he was ultra-efficient in his day under center. He finished 22-26 for 217 yards and a touchdown in the win. His 85% completion percentage was one of his career highs, and Allar looked calm under pressure, delivering a touchdown strike to Kyron Hudson while rolling to his right in the second quarter. 

Of course, the biggest development was the team's passing game going through its wide receivers in the team's win. Trebor Pena caught seven passes on eight targets for 74 yards, and former USC Trojan Kyron Hudson caught six passes for 89 yards and a touchdown on the day. 

Late in the game, backup quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer shone on his fourth-quarter drive, going 4-6 with a beautiful strike to Khalil DInkins for 24 yards. He ended the drive with a six-yard touchdown scramble.

Next, we'll take a look at the players joining Penn State on Saturday afternoon for the first game of the season. Which names do you need to know for the upcoming weekend? Which top prospects are making Penn State a priority over the other top teams this weekend? Snyder has been building his list and will share some key names today. 

From there, we'll do a quick high school preview of the games that fans should watch this weekend. Snyder has the biggest matchups between Penn State targets and prospects on the high school level for Friday and Saturday.
