Penn State head coach James Franklin opened up game week number one on Monday with his first press conference of the week. The team plays Nevada on Saturday at 3:30, and before that, Franklin discussed the conclusion to many of the team's depth chart battles during training camp. Join BWI Live today at 10 a.m. as we discuss the news that came out of yesterday's press conference. A common theme among fans is that this was the most open and informative that Franklin has been in quite some time. Do our reporters think that's true? We'll discuss that, plus other comments from yesterday on the show.
Join us at 10 a.m. on YouTube to be part of the conversation. Want to discuss something that isn't on the rundown? Join the live chat and ask your questions of reporters Sean Fitz and Nate Bauer! The best way to stay up to date on all of the action this season is to subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Page!
Between the Lines
We'll start today's show with your weekly segment, Between the Lines. Our first topic will be how there was much less reading between the lines than usual. Was Franklin more direct for a reason? Bauer and Fitz will share their insights on Franklin's transparency regarding depth chart battles, player situations within his program, and more. We'll also delve into some of the more substantial topics, including Drew Allar's class load, Franklin's insights into Zion Tracy's tackling issues, and their connection to the defensive scheme from last season.
Penn State camp battle conclusions
Next, we'll dig into Franklin's response about several camp battles that the media asked about during the roughly 40-minute conversation with reporters. We'll highlight his answers about
Safety
Wide receiver
Linebacker
Kick returner
Next, we'll discuss the position battle winners that Franklin didn't disclose, including the backup quarterback battle, and the right side of the offensive line.
Game Preview
Finally, we'll begin the week with an early game preview of Nevada. Of course, the focus is on the Penn State side of the equation and what we want to see from Penn State on Saturday. What players, situations, or schemes are we looking for on Saturday? We'll give you our first of three game previews coming up this week on the BWI Live Show. Join us at 10 a.m. all week for a full slate of Penn State football previews!

The recruiting dead period is nearly over, and things are heating up in high school football. Today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show, we're discussing the best upcoming high school football games to watch in the first weekend of the season, commits and prospects we're interested in watching this fall, plus discussing Penn State football's most recent commit. Join Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz, Blue White Illustrated's recruiting reporters, as they discuss the latest intel on Nittany Lions recruiting.
You can catch the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube or on demand, both in this article and on the BWI YouTube Channel. Of course, you can also listen and download anywhere you get your podcasts.
Penn State prospects we're eager to watch this fall
High school football games start this weekend. So as promised, we're previewing the best games of the weekend and then taking a longer look at the upcoming season. We'll start the show by discussing the Penn State commits and prospects we're most interested in watching this upcoming season. Snyder wrote about four that he wants to watch this fall, and we'll add four of our own to the conversation.
Next, we'll preview the weekend slate of games that include Penn State commits and targets to kick off the high school football season. Who is Snyder traveling to watch this weekend? He'll discuss the games that fans should know about or keep an eye on this weekend to see how some of the top targets perform in their junior and senior seasons.
Recapping Gabe Jenkins' commitment
Blue White Illustrated also connected with recent 2027 commit Gabe Jenkins' head coach at Imani Christian Academy, LaRoi Johnson about the latest player from his school to land with the Nittany Lions. Jenkins is the third Imani Christian football player to land with the team in as many years and the third player to be given an "athlete" tag in recruiting. Snyder will give his thoughts on what Jenkins brings to the Class of 2027.
Finally, we'll preview the upcoming 2028 recruiting class. On3 released the initial way-too-early rankings for the class this week, so we'll cover which players Penn State has connections to so far. Is it a strong year for the region so far? Snyder and Fitz will give their thoughts about the upcoming sophomores who have received national attention early in their careers.
Join the BWI Live Recruiting Show at 10 a.m. on YouTube to be part of the action. We'll be discussing your thoughts and conversation in the Live Chat during the show!

Penn State football enters the final week of preseason training camp, and the big storylines are starting to take shape as the team prepares for its season opener. With three weeks of practice in the books, the Nittany Lions are narrowing down position battles, finalizing rotations, and answering the pressing questions fans have about this roster. On today’s BWI Live show, we’ll be recapping the weekend news, checking the preseason hype on several storylines, plus taking your questions in the BWI Mailbag!
Join the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube! The best way to see every press conference, highlight, and show from Blue White Illustrated is to subscribe right now and enable notifications. That way, you’ll receive alerts when we post content.
This week should give us the clearest look yet at the projected depth chart; however, that may happen after our look at camp on Tuesday night. Our crew will preview what to expect from Tuesday night’s practice and what news we might get in the next several days from our insiders at Blue White Illustrated.
Every camp comes with storylines, and part of our job is to sort out which ones are real and which ones are just August optimism. We’ll break down what is hype and what is real from our camp observations and intel in our new segment “Camp Hype Check.” Are the Penn State receivers legitimately better than last year? Is the hype around individual players like Koby Howard or Khalil Dinkins real? We’ll discuss.
Under-the-Radar Names
In addition to the headline players, Penn State continues to get production from some under-the-radar names. Those will be highlighted later this week as part of our Weekend Intel and story promotions, giving fans a closer look at who’s quietly climbing the depth chart.
Mailbag Time
As always, we turn to the BWI Mailbag to tackle questions from subscribers:
Special Teams Outlook: One fan asked about a unit that hasn’t been discussed much this camp. We’ll break down how the Penn State kicking and return units look heading into the year.
Chaz Coleman: With the freshman defensive end generating so much buzz, will he burn his redshirt this fall?
Season Outcome Swing Factors: What underrated reasons could make or break a championship run?
Coach Terry Smith’s Value: Why his presence on staff remains essential for Penn State’s success.
Kotelnicki’s Offense: Will the new OC stick with a run-heavy approach in big games, or will he insist on showing wrinkles?
Penn State’s camp storylines are peaking, and by week’s end, fans should have a much clearer picture of what this team will look like when it takes the field this fall.

The Penn State wrestling show from Blue-White Illustrated is back following a brief summer hiatus as five Nittany Lions prepare to compete at the U20 World Championships, which start Sunday in Bulgaria.
Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel start this week's episode with a brief recap of what has taken place since our last episode. Class of 2026 commit Jayden James kicked off the program's offseason world tour by winning the U17 gold medal at 71 kilograms (156.5 pounds) earlier this month. The reigning New Jersey 150-pound state champ is now ready to embark on his senior season.
Next up is U20s, which the show moves on to next. Penn State will occupy five of the 10 Team USA spots at the event. The list of competitors includes incoming freshmen Marcus Blaze (61 kilograms/134.4 pounds), PJ Duke (70 kilograms/154.3 pounds), and William Henckel (79 kilograms/174.1 pounds) in addition to redshirt freshmen Connor and Cole Mirasola. They compete at 92 and 125 kilograms (202.8 and 275.5 pounds), respectively. Who could home with gold, when will each be on the mat, and how many medals could the group win over all? Carr and Pickel discuss and look at the U.S. team overall, which features plenty of fire power.

Penn State football is gearing up for another season of hosting recruits at home during the 2025 season. While there are still loose ends in the Class of 2026, the team will focus heavily on 2027 to get a jump on the recruiting process for the next cycle. While we're in the middle of a two-month dead period, Ryan Snyder has been working ahead to secure the names of players who plan to attend Penn State in the fall. He's also been interviewing players to get to know their stories ahead of the mad dash to January. Join the BWI Live Show as we discuss those topics, plus the major news that Penn State missed out on its quarterback target of choice for 2027, Peter Bourque, this week.
The BWI Live show airs at 10 a.m. on YouTube. You can join us to discuss your Penn State football recruiting thoughts and opinions by joining the live chat during the show. If you can't make the show live, you can always catch the show on replay in the channel, here in this article, or anywhere you get your podcasts.
Penn State loses out in 2027 QB Dominoes
Penn State Class of 2027 target Peter Bourque was a regular in Happy Valley over the last two summers. The New England native attended several camps and was clearly the team's top quarterback target for the upcoming cycle. It was a recruitment that most Penn State fans should have felt good about.
Then, suddenly, Bourque committed to Michigan earlier this week. Or, at least that's how it felt. We'll discuss the situation with Snyder and what his read of Penn State's most recent QB recruiting loss means for the program. Where does the team turn next? We'll dive into the dominoes that are now falling for the top remaining targets for the next cycle.
Also, after trying to recruit two quarterbacks for the last two cycles, can the team rebound and find two passers to join the ranks of the Nittany Lions signal callers?
Penn State recruit and commit stories
Snyder has spent the last several weeks getting in touch with recruits to get to know them and their plans for the fall better. We'll outline several of his conversations, including how the unlikely pair of PA safety Matt Seig and California QB Troy Huhn bonded in the Class of 2026.
Finally, we'll preview the upcoming fall football season for the rising seniors and discuss which players Snyder thinks have the best chance of rising up the recruiting rankings to make Penn State's profile for this cycle look better than it currently is.
Join the show live at 10 a.m. to discuss the latest Penn State recruiting news with BWI!

The Penn State football team is two weeks into training camp now, with our third window into practice opening tonight. Before we get a fresh batch of information, video, and sound from the team, we'll recap what we've learned so far through camp on today's BWI Live Show. Nate Bauer will join the show to discuss Thursday's practice and interviews post-practice. We'll also discuss the team's place as the second-ranked team in the AP Top 25 to start the year.
Join the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube! Ask our experts your Penn State Football questions in the live chat because we'll be interacting with you throughout the show. If you can't join us live, you can catch the show on replay 24/7 on the channel, here in this article, or anywhere you get your podcasts! Be sure to hear Penn State head coach James Franklin's press conference tonight by subscribing to our YouTube Channel and enabling notifications.
Penn State cements its preseason hype with AP Top 25 ranking
Penn State gained buzz all offseason with a slew of players returning for the upcoming season. After those announcements in January and February, the team went further by adding three wide receivers in the winter and spring transfer portal. Now, the team has emerged from the offseason hype as the second-ranked team in the preseason AP Poll. What does this mean for the team's chances at making a postseason run? We'll discuss.
Next, we'll dive right into camp observations from Thursday evening. The team hosted the media for an extended view of practice, including run game drills with the offensive and defensive line. We'll share feedback from practice to give fans a sense of what's going on with the team's trenches.
Between the Lines
Next, we'll discuss what players and coaches discussed with us during the post-practice interviews. Bauer will give us what coaches really mean by their comments in our recurring segment "Between the Lines." This week, he'll interpret what running backs coach Stan Drayton meant when speaking about his top running backs, Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton. We'll follow that up with Franklin's comments about the defensive tackle depth chart and where things stand with the d-line heading into the second half of training camp. Finally, he'll dissect what Franklin meant when outlining the team's "slow" start to camp.
Join us at 10 a.m. to discuss all of that and more!

Pete Nakos joins the show to discuss NIL
This summer, the House Settlement put in place a framework for better managing NIL and bringing it under guidelines. How has that gone so far? What is the inital feedback? Nakos will discuss how teams are experiencing the new rules.
Beyond that, has it begun to make NIL more transparent and fair? What are the challenges, both legal and logistical, to the new process? Of course, all of this affects Penn State. We'll discuss how the team has suffered losses to high-paying schools with top talent over the last two recruiting cycles. Is that still a danger going forward? Nakos will discuss what he knows.
We'll also discuss NIL's impact on other aspects of college football, including the transfer portal.
Early look at Penn State Class of 2027 needs
Finally, we'll spend the second half of the show discussing Penn State's biggest needs in the Class of 2027. With the 2026 group mostly filled, we've turned our attention to the future cycle, where Penn State has already put together a strong start to the class. We'll assess four major positions to that the team should target in the upcoming cycle to address roster needs of the future. Which positions need to be hit this cycle? Join the show to find out!

We'll discuss the biggest takeaways from the show, which aired last night and this morning on The Big Ten Network, including the impressions the group got from new Penn State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. They also had a consensus on the team's roster and its caliber for this year.
But the BTN Camp Tour isn't the only people who've seen Penn State training camp in the last week. Pickel was at media day, and we'll get his reactions from the event now that he's had a few days to digest the information. What stood out to him at practice? Who was his most interesting interviewee? We'll ask him.
Freaks List
Finally, we'll look at The Freaks List and discuss the five Penn State players on the rundown of the most athletic players in college football.
