The Penn State Football team has completed spring football camp and the 2025 transfer portal window is closed. While the team could still add players already in the portal, it's less likely by the day that will happen. So, today on the BWI Live Show, we're re-ranking the Penn State offensive positions. We ranked the positions before spring football on the site and will now reveal which positions we think took the biggest steps in player acquisition and development over the last two months.

Join the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube to be part of the show! Don't like the rankings? Give us your rundown in the live chat, and we'll read the best out while live.

Penn State Football News

It's a quiet time of the year for the program, with most of the focus shifting to recruiting. However, there has been news about former Penn State players trying to make it in the NFL this week. Two former Nittany Lion defensive linemen signed with teams in the last four days for tryouts or rookie practice spots. We'll discuss how Amin Vanover and Dvon J-Thomas can make a roster this spring.

We'll also briefly discuss the recruiting weekend. The Elite 11 wraps up its national tour in State College on Sunday. Blue White Illustrated will be at the event to watch two Penn State passers. The team has fielded at least one committed passer at the last three events in the shadow of Penn State's campus. We'll preview what we want to learn about Peyton Falzone and Troy Huhn this weekend.

Power Ranking the offense

Each year we track the team's progress in the offseason by ranking it's collective pieces on both sides of the ball pre and post spring football. This year, we're starting with the offense in our post-spring evaluation. Penn State added another wide receiver to the mix hours before the Blue-White Game when former Syracuse receiver Trebor Pena committed to the program. Was that enough to get the position out of the basement?

We'll discuss the team's roster, counting from five to one on the show. We'll also track how certain positions developed this spring, vaulting one team to a new number one on the offense while two critical positions merged even closer in the rankings.

Be sure to check out the show live at 10 a.m. or catch the replay on the site. You can also listen to the audio version anywhere you get your podcasts.

The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team picked up a commitment yesterday as part of the Class of 2026, days before the first full official visit weekend of the summer. Today on the BWI Live Show, we'll discuss the impact of Davion Brown joining the program, plus we'll preview the upcoming season. We'll run through the roster and discuss if we think each position is better or worse than it was last season.

Join the show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube so you don't miss any of the information or entertainment we've got for you today! The best way to know when we go live is to subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable notifications. That way, you'll receive an update when we go live or post breaking news.

Does Penn State look like other championship teams at this point in the season?

We've seen plenty of ways that other programs have won a national championship in college football. There's no one way to do it. Yet, there are some clues as to how other comparable programs have operated before they went on a championship run. Today, we'll see if Penn State stacks up to that with the recent speculation about the program. We'll review how many 2026 draft picks the team could put into the NFL in the top three rounds and how Penn State is building a strong consensus as the top team in college football.

Fitz's Recruiting Update: A surprise commitment

Penn State picked up a surprise commitment late Monday night when four-star wide receiver target Davion Brown committed to the program. Brown planned on visiting the team this coming weekend for an official visit, but pulled the trigger early and joined the team a few days ahead of his trip to HappY Valley.

Why?

Recruiting reporter Sean Fitz will discuss what he knows about the situation, and we'll give you an early impression of what Brown can provide Penn State in the Class of 2026.

We'll also discuss how the team has another wide receiver target visiting this weekend and what fans should know about the offensive line class this cycle from reporter Ryan Snyder.

Better or Worse?

Finally, we'll end the show discussing the Penn State roster. The team was one drive away from the College Football National Championship game this January. With most of the team's talent returning, we'll ask a simple question. Is each position better or worse than it was in 2024? Today, we'll review the skill positions on offense to see where we think the program stands heading into the upcoming football season.

The Penn State football team secured a linebacker for 2025 earlier this week but the team's roster building efforts are never over. The program is switching into recruiting mode after the conclusion of spring football last week. On today's BWI Live Recruiting Show, we'll discuss the latest news, including Penn State's place in several final school cutdowns for top targets, an RPM for tomorrow, coaches on the road, and more!

Join the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube or check it out on replay wherever you get your podcasts. The best way to stay up to date on the latest conversations and breaking news is to subscribe to the BWI YouTube Channel and enable notifications.

Penn State recruiting news

We'll start off the show discussing Penn State's addition of Amare Campbell on Tuesday. Sean Fitz wrote a comprehensive breakdown of Campbell's journey from North Carolina to the Nittany Lions and why he was such a quick take for the team.

From there, we'll shift to the latest recruiting news. One of Penn State's top defensive targets, defensive lineman Alex Haskell, will make his college decision on Friday. Reporter Ryan Snyder has put in his pick for where he thinks Haskell will choose, which we'll discuss on today's show.

The team also made the final cutdown for several top targets in the 2026 cycle this week. We'll discuss those names and why the lists don't matter as much as another list Penn State needs to be on for those players.

Finally, we'll end this section of the show by discussing where coaches have visited during the month of May. It's a contact period for the staff, meaning they can go out and visit players across the country and continue the relationship-building efforts to secure talent for the next chapter. Where have they been so far? Snyder and Fitz will outline their stops.

Top contenders

Lastly, we'll end the show by looking at some of the team's top targets and discussing the recruiting battles that Penn State is facing to land those players. Who are the top contenders for players like Luke Wafle, Joey O'Brien, and Khary Adams? We'll preview some of the top official visits coming up this and next month in our Top Contenders segment to end the show. Join us to hear which schools pop up the most in Penn State's battle to land a top ten recruiting class for 2026.

The Penn State Nittany Lions under head coach James Franklin are going for it all this year. The team was on the doorstep of the 2024 College Football National Championship game a few months ago. Now the team is loading up at key positions in the transfer portal this spring. Today on the BWI Live Show, we discuss the team's latest addition, former North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell. We'll discuss the team's progress in the portal this spring, and its roster now that the team has addressed all of its public-facing needs after spring football.

Join the show live at 10 a.m. on YouTube to discuss the latest news, plus more topics coming up on the show! The best way to know when we go live is to subscribe to the BWI YouTube channel and enable notifications.

Penn State lands Campbell in the portal

Penn State head coach James Franklin made it obvious that his team was looking for help in the portal after the Blue-White Game at the end of April.

"As you guys know, we're not a big portal team, but you know, we're going to have to address some issues. So if there is a linebacker out there that wants to come and be a part of our program and play for LBU, the most historic linebacker program in the history of college football, there's an opportunity here to join the room and compete," he said.

Less than a day later, the team set up visits from the top two linebackers in the transfer portal. On Tuesday, Campbell committed to the program shortly after his visit. Today, we'll discuss how he performed at North Carolina, his fit with Penn State, and his addition to the team's outlook for the upcoming season.

Finally, we'll look at the complete portal picture, including transfers out of the program this offseason.

Penn State game wreckers

The team has made it clear that it won't settle until it feels like its weaknesses are addressed, but what about its strengths? How many "game wreckers" does Penn State have on its roster? We're bringing this discussion from the BWI Message board to the show. We'll discuss how many bona fide threats the team has on offense and defense, and discuss which players could make that leap this year.

Sunday "film' Study

Finally, we'll wrap up with a final look back at the Blue-White Game. What did we learn about the team's plans for the upcoming season? We'll discuss the biggest schematic clues that the team showed during the game.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are in full offseason mode now that spring football has concluded. However, that doesn't mean that the news has completely stopped. Today on the BWI Live Show, we'll discuss the team's efforts to find players in the transfer portal, including hosting a target today, the team's latest efforts to raise money for NIL, and recruiting news.

Penn State has a new initiative to raise money for scholarships

On Monday, Penn State unveiled a new initiative to raise money for the program. Reporter Nate Bauer detailed the new initiative, which includes putting your name on the seats in the Lasch Building auditorium.

New to the program, the Nittany Lions’ football excellence fund is opening the opportunity to fans this summer to put their names on the chairbacks of the team auditorium at the Lasch Building. Available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Read more here.

https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/penn-state-launches-new-excellence-fund-initiative-james-franklin-added-to-we-are-in-philly-lineup/

We'll discuss what Bauer knows about the program and what group of players it helps to support.

Transfer portal and recruiting news

Penn State hosted former Rutgers linebacker Mohamed Toure last week, and this week they're hosting linebacker Amare Campbell. We'll discuss what we know about the visits and what's next for the team's pursuit of talent in the spring transfer portal window.

Now that the portal window is closed, we'll also discuss which losses hurt the team heading out the door this year and which are natural attrition for the team's roster management.

Next, we'll discuss the latest additions to the program, which are part of the next recruiting Class. Reporter Sean Fitz gives his thoughts on linebackers Terry Wiggins and Mathieu Lamah, who committed on Friday and Monday. How do they fit into the program, and what does it mean for the team's overall recruiting efforts? We'll get his thoughts on that, and what the two players bring to the table.

Finally, top cornerback target Brandon Arrington joined the program for the season's first official visit this year. We'll discuss what Fitz knows about the visit and what Arrington would mean to the program's cornerback recruiting efforts for 2026.

 Vibes Check

Finally, we'll end the show by discussing the latest Penn State news from a different angle. Our reporters work on facts and information, so we're giving them a chance to relax and just give us a gut check on several topics. We're calling the new segment a Vibes Check. We'll discuss their thoughts on the team's recent climb to number one in off-season rankings, the outlook for the defense, and more.

The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team completed spring camp this past weekend with the annual Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium. While practice is over, the team's preparations for pursuing a College Football National Championship is nowhere near complete. On today's BWI Live Show, we'll recap the Blue-White Game, discuss the latest portal activity with the team, and more!

Join the show live at 10 am to discuss your thoughts about spring football, the portal, the game and more! We'll be taking questions from the live chat and discussing your comments throughout the show! Blue-White Game Recap

Before we dive into the Blue-White game recap, we'll also take a moment to discuss the Penn State football players who were drafted or found a home in the 2025 NFL Draft this weekend. The team sent five players to the NFL via the draft over the three-day weekend and many more found homes as undrafted free agents.

Next, we'll dive into our thoughts on the Blue-White Game. We did our instant analysis on Saturday after the game, but we'll dig deeper into our notebooks to give a more comprehensive conversation about the game and our thoughts about Penn State's progress through spring football. Reporters Nate Bauer and Sean Fitz were on hand to see the game, and we'll relate our experience to fans who didn't get a chance to see the game.

Also, we've been running a contest for new subscribers to the YouTube channel over the last month. Today, we're revealing the five winners who will get a subscription to the site for signing up during the last 30 days.

Transfer portal recap

Hours before the Blue-White Game, Penn State football got a shot in the arm of positive news. Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena committed to the program after skipping a visit with Miami. The team addressed a major need in the portal with one of the best players available. We'll discuss how he fits into the lineup and what his presence means for the team's passing attack.

Next, we'll discuss Penn State head coach James Franklin's comments from Saturday about the team's need for a linebacker in the portal. We'll recap the news from Sunday that the staff is aggressively pursuing options in the portal, which is now closed.

Finally, we'll recap the latest recruiting news, including a weekend commitment and recruits visiting campus for the Blue-White Game.

It's an incredibly busy end to Penn State Spring football calendar. Not only does the 2025 NFL Draft kick off tonight in Green Bay, but the team concluded its final open media session on Wednesday night. With the Blue-White Game this weekend, the team's visibility on the college football and national radar is high. We're covering all of that today on the BWI Live Recruiting Show.

Join the show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube to discuss the team's progress as they exit camp, the Draft, and of course, recruiting. The team hosted players yesterday and will host more over the next few days, culminating in the Blue-White Game on Saturday. We'll cover the names you need to know who are visiting the program this weekend.

NCAA Lawsuit conclusion held up by roster limits

We'll start with possibly the most impactful news on the program's upcoming season, which has nothing to do with the team. The House v. NCAA case settlement has hit a major roadblock with judge Claudia Wilken refusing to accept a hard cutoff of walk-on players this year and instead grandfathering players into a gradual limitation of the roster limits over the next several seasons.

We'll discuss what that means for the Penn State roster and the players fighting for a spot on the team this spring and summer.

Next, we'll discuss the team's NFL Draft prospects who will go in the first round of the Draft tonight. We'll take a recruiting angle on the conversation, discussing the value of having two first-round picks: Abdul Carter and Tyler Warren.

Penn State practice recap

Of course, the team held open practice last night, so we'll recap what we saw and heard on Wednesday night. What did Penn State head coach James Franklin say about the format for the game? We'll review that, show you highlights from practice, and more!

Penn State recruiting visits and conversations

The team will hold four practices this week, including the Blue-White Game on Saturday. How has the team done at getting prospects on campus? It's the final push before the May evaluation period leading into official visits at the end of the month. Can the team push a few more commitments across the line this weekend?

Recruiting reporters Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder will discuss the upcoming names for the Blue-White Game, plus detail conversations they've had over the last week with recruits, parents, and coaches.

Still, there are some news updates, including new homes for several outgoing Penn State football players. Where did Ta'Mere Robinson land after leaving the program last week? We'll give you the latest.

Next, we'll discuss the critical facts we'll try to gather at Penn State's final open practice of the spring period before the Blue-White Game. Which players need to have a strong final week to gain momentum into the summer portion of roster battles? We'll discuss what we're going to focus on this week.

Head coach James Franklin gave an update during the Penn State Coach's Show last night about how the Blue-White Game will work. Join the show to hear more about what that means for fans and what they will see this weekend.

Penn State portal update

Penn State football moved quickly last week, hosting one of the top wide receiver options in the portal on Friday. Former Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena joined the program to meet the staff and see how he'd fit with the Lions as one of his first stops in his portal free agency. We'll discuss what we've learned about Pena, his skills, and how he fits into the program.

From there, we'll zoom out and discuss what we've seen in the portal while discussing Penn State's chances of hosting or landing more prospects before the window closes on April 26.

Fitz's Recruiting Update

Penn State was also busy recruiting at the end of last week. Three-star safety Darrell Carey committed to the program. We'll discuss his fit, Fitz's impressions of the prospect, and how he works into the program's overall strategy for 2025.

Of course, the team has two safeties committed and a third athlete who could play the position already. How does that affect Joey O'Brien's place on the roster? Fitz will discuss the news from his visit, which took place on Thursday and Friday.

Finally, we'll review the rest of the important names and faces of those who showed up last weekend or on Monday.

Blue-White Game Preview

The Penn State Wrestling team won a national championship less than a month ago but the team's current, former and future wrestlers are already on to the next challenge. On the Penn State Wrestling Show, we preview the US Open, the U20 and U17 Opens. We'll also recap the Class of 2025 recruiting rankings.

Penn State ties at the senior level

Current Nittany Lions are entered in both the U20 (also referred to as the junior division) and the Senior divisions. Starting with a look at the entries for the latter tournament, which helps set the team that competes at the Olympic level, Luke Lilledahl is one of the favorites at 57 kilograms (125.6 pounds). The same can be said for defending NCAA champ Mitchell Mesenbrink at 74 kilograms (163.1). Newcomer Rocco Welsh is the 86 kilogram (189.5 pounds) field. And, Class of 2025 signee Marcus Blaze is in the senior level tournament at 61 kilograms (134.4 pounds).

Penn State alum Beau Bartlett is in the senior tournament at 63 kilograms (143.4 pounds) and could see familiar foe Jesse Mendez of Ohio State in that weight class' final. Other Nittany Lion Wrestling Club members competing in that division include Kyle Dake, who is bumping up two weight classes to 86 kilograms (189.5 pounds), and Kyle Snyder (97 kg/213.8 pounds). And, former Penn State wrestlers Nico Megaludis and Terrell Barraclough will compete at 61 and 74 kilograms, respectively.

Nittany Lion ties in the U20 tournament

A large batch of young Penn State wrestlers will compete in the U20 tournament. The list includes Cole and Connor Mirasola at 92 and 125 kilograms, respectively, Brock Weiss at 70 kilograms, Joe Sealey at 74 kilograms, Nate Demsond at 61 kilograms, Dalton Perry at 65 kilograms, PJ Duke at 70 kilograms, and William Henckel at 79 kilograms.

One Class of 2026 commit is also in the U20 field. Johnstown Bishop McCort PIAA placer Sam Herring is in the 61 kilograms field.

James set for U17 action

Last but not least on the list of Penn State competitors at the U.S. Open is new Class of 2026 commit Jayden James. He is in the 71 kilogram bracket
