We'll discuss Penn State's chances and if the news changes anything for our reporter's thoughts about the race to acquire the top defensive backs on the team's recruiting board.

The team also added several high-profile national prospects to the June official visit calendar. We'll discuss which players are coming to see the program and what Penn State's chances are to land a national prospect like defensive tackle Titan Davis.

It's no secret that the Penn State football team is loaded for the upcoming season. Several high-profile players chose to return for their senior seasons, seeking the chance to win a national title and enhance their draft stock. But which players on the team are absolutely critical to the team's success this year? We're naming the team's "Keystone Players" on which the season's hopes hinge. We'll also preview the upcoming season by playing Buy or Sell and answer your questions in the BWI Mailbag!

Join the BWI Live Show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube or catch the replay any time. You can also catch the show wherever you get your podcasts.

Penn State news

We'll start the show with a quick Penn State football news segment. The new cover for College Football '26 was released this week, and the team is featured on the cover. We'll show you the cover art featuring Nick Singleton and Penn State head coach James Franklin and discuss it.

In more real-world news, the Athletic put out kick-time predictions for the first three games of the 2025 season. We'll discuss the potential impact of those games on the team's opening schedule and exposure against Nevada, FIU, and Villanova.

Buy or Sell

Will Zakee Wheatly lead the Penn State defense in tackles? Can Singleton and teammate Kaytron Allen combine for over 2,500 rushing yards? We're playing Buy or Sell on today's show to discuss what we expect from the team's offensive and defensive output this year. We'll highlight areas where we believe the team will produce significant statistical outputs and others where we anticipate the team may fall behind.

Keystone Players

Football is a game built on the collective efforts of 11 individuals working together. Yet, not every job or position on the field is as critical as the next. So, we're not asking which players are the best or will put out the most stats this coming year; we're discussing which players are the most irreplaceable on the team. Today, we'll outline the Keystone players on defense, without whom the team's defensive plan may fall apart.

BWI Mailbag

Finally, we open the show's last segment to you! Join us for the BWI Mailbag by asking your questions in the live chat throughout the show. We'll highlight the best ones during the Mailbag and answer your questions about Penn State Football. Join us at 10 a.m. to be part of the show!

We're continuing our examination of the Penn State football team's position as a top team heading into the 2025 college football season. Today, we'll discuss the facts and fiction behind the offseason narratives that national media outlets are weaving about the team this offseason. We'll also continue our look at the team's offseason progress by playing Better or Worse? to end the show. Of course, we'll have the latest Penn State football and recruiting news on Today's BWI Live Show as well.

Join the show at 10 a.m. on YouTube, on replay, or anywhere you get your podcasts. Subscribe now so you don't miss any of our football, recruiting, or wrestling coverage all offseason!

Penn State news

We'll start the show with the terrible news of former Penn State wide receiver Julian Fleming. Reports this weekend say that Fleming was in an ATV accident.

From the original report:

“In a release, troopers say before 8:15 p.m., authorities were called to Painter Lick Lane in Columbia Township Friday night after an ATV crash. State police explain that the ATV was traveling Northbound on Painter Lick Lane when it struck a deer that jumped out into the roadway.”

We'll discuss the situation.

In less sober news, we'll move on to today's main topic. Penn State is now a favorite topic of conversation for national media. Some of the compliments and criticism are fair for the 2025 squad. Some are not. Reporter Nate Bauer broke down what he saw as the facts and the fiction behind the hype for the program this offseason. We'll discuss his recent article on today's show.

Fitz's Recruiting Update

It was a big weekend in New Jersey for top prospects in the Northeast on Saturday. The Under Armour camp circuit came through the region, attracting top talent from Penn State's recruiting footprint, especially on the offensive and defensive line. We'll discuss what recruiting reporter Sean Fitz saw this weekend from players like offensive line commits Roseby Lubintus and Layton von Brandt, as well as top prospects like Jackson Vaughn and Maxwell Hiller.

It's also another important weekend for the Class of 2026 coming up on Friday. We'll have another official visit preview on Fitz's Recruiting Update.

Better or Worse?

One of the narratives we'll discuss earlier in today's show is about the Penn State defense. There's a feeling that unit can be better this year under new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. We'll dive deeper into that topic today in our summer series Better or Worse? We'll examine the front seven to see if the defensive ends, linebackers, and defensive tackles can be better than they were in 2024.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have a brief pause this weekend from official visits, but the news doesn't stop. Join the BWI Live Recruiting Show today at 10 a.m. on YouTube to discuss the reaction from the last recruiting weekend, plus a preview of an upcoming decision from a top target in 2026.

Recruiting reporters Sean Fitz and Ryan Snyder delve into the most important topics from the last week in Penn State football recruiting each Thursday on the Recruiting Show! Subscribe to the YouTube Channel now so you don't miss any shows or breaking news.

Penn State recruiting news

While most of our attention is on the Class of 2026 as it comes to a pivotal decision time over the next two months, we'll start today with the Class of 2027. The Nittany Lions have an elite start to the next cycle, according to the latest On300 rankings for the juniors-to-be. Snyder and Fitz discuss where commits Khalil Taylor, Kemon Spell, and Layton von Brandt rank in the updated list, which dropped this week. Snyder will also detail where Pennsylvania stacks up in the national recruiting scene for the next cycle.

Penn State is also waiting on a decision today from three-star cornerback Jaziel Hart. The Virginia native will announce his commitment from a final five of Notre Dame, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Penn State. Our reporters will tell you which way the wind is blowing before the final announcement.

There are also several other defensive targets narrowing in on various decisions, which we'll recap. Who are top defensive tackle Damari Simeon's top schools? We'll recap his final four and discuss the official visit situation for one of the team's top remaining targets.

Elite 11 Recap

Next, we'll recap the State College regional camp for the Elite 11. Several Penn State commits competed in the passing challenge and the All-22 camp before the quarterbacks took over. Our recruiting team was there in force and we'll recap what we saw and heard from the event, plus review the news that dropped last night about finals invites.

OV Recap and BWI Recruiting Mailbag

Finally, we'll end the show by discussing the program's first big official visit weekend. While Blue White Illustrated subscribers have been briefed on the impressions from recruits this week, we'll synthesize that information into one conversation on today's show. Which players stood out? Which is Penn State in a good position to land? We'll give you the lay of the land.

Then, we'll close out the show by taking questions from the BWI Mailbag. Submit your questions via a five-star review on your preferred podcasting app, or drop a comment into the live chat! We'll take the best questions and answer questions submitted from the Blue-White Illustrated Message board.

Power Ranking the Penn State defense

Finally, we'll end the show by power ranking the Penn State defensive positions in our post-spring analysis. We'll shine a light on which positions can dominate the defensive personality this fall based on the combination of talent and scheme.
