Cabin Culture

In this heartwarming episode of Cabin Culture, we delve into the inspiring journey of Cassouki, the creator of the Conscious Cabin nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. From a childhood spent in nature to a fast-paced career in Boston, Cassouki shares how a series of life-altering events led her back to the tranquility of the woods. Discover how the Conscious Cabin became a sanctuary for healing, creativity, and community, and how Kazuki's vision extends beyond just a retreat space, aiming to nurture and empower others through connection with nature and self. This is the second episode that has brought me to tears, which Sean keeps reminding me didn’t even happen at your wedding. So if you’re thinking about this one, DON’T. You will be so grateful for the perspective that Cassouki brings to cabin culture, and your life.

*PART 2* These episodes are a bit different... we talked for so long it ended up as two episodes, and while Sam is the host at one of the most iconic spots in Maine we didn’t even talk about her space until Episode 2. Sam and Rob’s background is in operations at a large company that worked to help other businesses scale. So on today’s episode we’re talking about how all that experience led to the creation, and growth, or not only a luxury treehouse but also a Maine-based lifestyle brand. We talk about storytelling, loss, entrepreneurship and trademarking before we ever get to building and hosting. But stick with us, cause I think there are a TON of gems in these two episodes.

This week on the podcast we’re talking to Seth & Aaron, photographers who specialize in wildlife, the outdoors, and cabins. Some of you may have heard the conversation we had last year over on their podcast, ‘The Photographer’s Mindset’, and today we’re chatting even more about all the things photographers have in common, and some of the things we don’t. In the days of Instagram as a tool for marketing cabin rentals, and sourcing design inspiration, paint colors, you name it, relationships with great photographers is crucial of cabin owners. But it can also be tricky. Thankfully Seth and Aaron are here to help us navigate it, and understand all the nuances of working together so that everyone wins. Plus, they’ve got some great tips for cabin owners when it comes to visuals and marketing, so join us for today’s conversation! Let’s do it :)

On this episode I’m talking to Jason & Monique from The Vermont Aframe. An original 1965 boho A-frame, this duo has been hosting on AirBNB since 2019, and are 20 time Superhosts. But what I love about today’s conversation is that it’s not just about the cabin, the design and the Instagram, it’s also about the EXPERIENCE. The things we can do as hosts that elevate the overall stay, the memories that are created while people are there, and not necessarily the things we do to grow online. I value their perspective on this, and how they’ve found success during their hosting journey. Thanks for joining us, and let’s dive in!

On this episode I’m talking to Jasmin, the host behind North Cascades Haven in Marblemount, Washington. Jasmin renovated and launched the cabin only six months ago, and has already generated an astounding social media following of 120k on Instagram. Her background as a data scientist in the aerospace industry likely helped with this, and today we dive deeper into how she made this happen, and her tips for other hosts. Plus, she developed quite a knack for interior design throughout this process, and she shares with us a bunch of her insight and advice for designing or tweaking your own cabin. Thanks for joining us, and let’s get to it!

On this episode I’m talking to Yvonna and Darin, owners and hosts behind the Haute Haus Colorado. While I originally reached out to them to talk about their Colorado rentals, I had NO IDEA they had such a rich history with STR’s, starting on their own property, surviving hurricanes, and eventually turning those lemons into lemonade with their newest Aframe. On this episode we talk about all the challenges that come with this history including STR regulations, insurance claims, rebuilding and hosting from abroad. You won’t wanna miss this one!

On this episode we're talking to Cristina & Liz, owners and hosts behind Camp Tall Pines in Shapleigh, Maine. With a background in real estate (and running a boutique eco-friendly hotel long before AirBNB made short term rentals popular), and a love for Maine, these two are the perfect ones to share their experiences on the podcast. Even if their 'cabin' is technically an old one-room schoolhouse. But it has a wood stove, is surrounded by forest, and located in the most cabin friendly state in the United States (according to me), so I absolutely loved this conversation and think you will too :)

On this episode we're talking to Addie Wales, owner and host behind Ely Cabin Collective. It all started with their original log cabin, The Ely Log Cabin, but after finding quick success on AirBNB they began their second and third builds of slightly different spaces. Most notably, the original log cabin is completely off grid, presenting a variety of challenges, and opportunities, as a host creating experiences for their guests. Today we're gonna talk about how it started, how it grew, and a whole bunch of build and hosting tips along the way.
