  • Pigeon on a Power Line l Meredith Ewenson (@meredithewenson)

Meredith Ewenson is a nature advocate, group travel planner, content creator and a whole lot more. She’s been in the marketing/PR/Social media space for 15 years, as well as a yoga and meditation teacher for 10 years. She works daily to share the benefits of getting outdoors and practicing mindfulness in nature, and on this episode of the podcast we talk about all of this. Basically, we have an entire conversation about cabin culture that doesn’t involve any cabins... but DOES involve ways to integrate cabin culture into your daily life to reduce stress and increase your consistent connection with nature 👍🏻

  • A Maine-iac Chat with Courtney + Patrick

On this episode we’re talking with Courtney + Patrick, owners and hosts at the Maine Lake Haus and the Maine A Frame. Courtney + Patrick first started their journey on AirBNB almost by accident, and now are killing at all three of their properties in Bethel, Maine. They have experience in renovating down to the foundation, as well as building from the ground up, so on today’s episodes are going to talk about all of it. I’ll warn, we did NOT get through everything we wanted to cover, so stay tuned in upcoming weeks for part two with this incredible Mainiac duo. Thanks so much for joining us, and here we go!

  • For With [Paul], All Things are Possible | Rob from ADK Aframe (adkaframe)

Todays episode is a great one for anyone considering building there own DIY A-frames  or cabins. Rob from ADK Aframe joins Janice this week for a recap of all the ins and outs  of his kit build. It was a massive undertaking as someone who had, up until that point, only really done some light home remodeling but with a solid support team from the kit company and a friend name Paul at a local lumber company, anything is possible. Janice and Rob also touch on experiences starting as a new host and what Airbnb might be able to do better to support the host/guest experience.

  • Proud Parents and "Dead Grandma’s Cabin" | Sarah Reid (@thesecretaframe)

In this week's episode, we are delighted to have Sarah Reid as our guest. She takes us on a captivating journey, starting from a quaint East coast bookstore cafe, venturing to San Francisco, and eventually returning to her family's picturesque A-frame in Deering, New Hampshire.

Sarah's career trajectory began in the non-profit and social justice sectors before she stumbled upon her passion and "drug"  – interior design. Fueled by her newfound love, she dedicated herself to formal education in the field. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, she made the bold decision to leave the West Coast and her design firm behind, returning to the East Coast to embark on an ambitious renovation project, transforming her family's A-frame into their primary residence.

Sarah's exceptional work has garnered recognition, with features on HGTV and in various publications. Today, she thrives as an interior design consultant, eagerly taking on projects of all sizes, especially those involving smaller spaces.

  • Boots on the Ground at Little Mountain Aframe | Shealy (littlemountainaframe)

I think we have a new first on the pod. We've had a few Cabin Culture guests on that have experienced Janice's Cozy Rock Cabin in person, but I don't think either of us have had the opportunity to visit any of the guests cabins, until now. Janice spent the weekend on an excursion to nearby Asheville North Carolina for a new tattoo and was able to enjoy the weekend at Little Mountain Aframe, hosted by Shealy who joins us on the episode today. Her new built A-frame is located in Old Forte, just down the road from Asheville and has been available to book for only about a month however, the design and build process has taken up the last few years for her and her husband Eddie. Janice and Shealy touch on all the unique design considerations made from lighting to paint, what sparked the initial idea to build their own escape, and the business approach that supports their dream cabin.

  • Steering Guests Towards Experiences and Feelings They Might Not Get At Home | Cassidy Scheer (hayward_haus)

Some of you,  like myself, may have been out back with an axe splittinng some fresh wood for the fire some night, nail a log dead center and think to yourselves. Yup! pretty much a real life lumber jack. Well, you're not, and neither am I. But todays guest Cassidy is an actual competing professional lumberjack with the awards to prove it. He is also the face behind Hayward_Haus in Hayward Wisconsin. Cassidy has been involved in the short term rental scene for almost 15 years and shares with Janice how he's seen the space change. They talk pricing for local events and seasons, selling your area, cancelation policies and what changes they'd like to see to the Airbnb review system. All that and more on this episode of Cabin Culture.

  • Co-owning Cabins with Family, Is it Possible? | Janice and Cheryl (@cozycampsebec)

A night under the stars next to a crackling fire with Janice (occasionally Sean) and her twin Cheryl on how Cozy Camp Sebec came to be. Different personalities shaped their ideas of what financially planning for the future looked like until an opportunity presented itself at the lake they grew up spending time at. Outlining some boundaries for the four people involved helped align the team on roles and responsibilities that would get the reno complete and the camp up and running. Hearing their experience could provide some great insight into your own adventure if you ever thought about teaming up with family to start your cabin journey.

  • Is Direct Booking Right for You? | Jared Johnson (directvacationbookings)

Todays episode we take a quick break from cabin owners and hosts to focus on some important topics that keep popping up, like direct booking. This episode comes at a perfect time for us at Chal-A as we close in on 1 full year since we opened our doors and prior guests have started to reach out about booking another stay in the upcoming seasons. Janice asks all the important questions and Jared gives some great insight on why setting up direct booking could be beneficial to your short term rental. And how does Jared know all this about Direct booking? Well his business is building websites for hosts specifically to accept direct booking, not only that but he supports the sites he builds for you so you can focus on hosting. If you're someone who already direct books feel free to let us know in the dm's or in the comments on Janice's reel for the episode what we missed or ways it benefits your short term rental. Enjoy the show!

  • It's All About Family | Jami Jenkins (carppenterscabinoh)

Ever wonder what a monopoly house game piece might look like as a cabin in the woods, well that was the initial inspiration behind the design of Jami's Carpenter Cabin in Hocking Hills Ohio. Set on a secluded 32 acre lot she envisioned a place where her kids, grand kids, family and friends could  spend time and create memories with plenty of space to reset and explore. Along with the Carpenter Cabin, the Jenkin's have added two other stays each, with a different feel and features to suite a perfect get away. Jami shares the struggle of letting go for that very first guest after putting all the time, energy and love into your special place, but also the fullfillment that comes with creating a stay that makes endless memories for others. Hope you Enjoy.
