We’re here with business coach Murielle Marie to talk about how to get out of the habit of relentless productivity and how to set goals for ourselves. Murielle is a mentor to the unconventional and is a passionate multi-creative with over two decades of entrepreneurial experience.
Growing up, she saw her father working all day and night and thought that was what she needed to do - constantly stay busy! However, after both her parents passed away - within five weeks of each other - she stepped back to do some soul searching and realized that she never figured out what she wanted to do for herself.
Studying philosophy at university, Murielle became interested in the mind and psychology, specifically, why humans choose to do what they do. Now in her coaching business she strives to help others find out their why, make decisions, and take action on their decisions.
Find out how you can avoid inheriting dreams from others, how you can look for and find what you really want in life, and why you need to get uncomfortable to change your behavior.
Show Highlights

[04:12] In her past, she did things that she thought she should be doing.

What’s more important to success - hard work or the talent you’re born with? I’ve always been interested in why we do the things that we do. Why some people can overcome insurmountable odds to become highly successful, while others don’t seem to be able to succeed or reach their potential. When it comes to success ... grit may matter more than your talent! In this episode I’ll show you how to build the mental toughness you need to work toward your goals.
I love stories that show the power of our minds to control our success. In this episode I share one of my favorites from the 1996 Olympics and women’s gymnastics, and how watching this event sparked my interest in both sports and neuroscience.
Find out why Grit and perseverance are both skills you can learn, why Grit is a combination of passion and perseverance, and why a growth mindset gives you an advantage in life.

Take the Angela Duckworth Grit Test
You might think “if I just work harder then I’ll get more done”... but working more can actually make you LESS productive. Getting up early, staying up late, and working through lunch to get a few more items checked off your to-do list could be a sign that you’re overworking your brain, which leads to more mistakes and reduced efficiency. Listen in and find out why working more isn’t always the best strategy and how you can optimize your brain’s natural attention limits to work less!
After graduating with my Ph.D. I landed my dream job at a hospital in Calgary. But after a few years in this fantastic position I wasn’t feeling motivated to work. In fact, I felt bored!
So I started my own business, while also working my day job. Working a lot of hours. In the short term, I was able to get things done. But over time I ended up pushing past my brain’s limits and burning myself out.
Find out why your brain stops working efficiently when you become a workaholic, how reducing hours creates more efficiency, and how a time audit could get your productivity back on track.

Maria David-Evans joins me today to talk about how to bust through the glass ceiling as a woman and become successful in your career. Maria has been breaking down the gender barrier for decades. She talks about her 45 years of public service where she was often the only woman in the room. Receiving numerous awards for her leadership and community work, Maria has been twice named on Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women.
Her family left war-torn Hungary during the revolution. After living in a refugee camp for over a year, she and her family had the opportunity to move to Edmonton. At the age of 10, she and her friends formed the Busy Bee Club to help the elderly and disabled in her community. This started her interest in solving “people problems.”
As an adult, Maria blazed the trail for women in leadership and management positions, including being the first female parks and recreation director of Canada, and being the deputy administrator in multiple areas of the provincial government.
Maria shares how she tried to fit-in early in her career when working in male-dominated industries, and what it was like to often be the only woman in the room. And she explains why finding the right mentors is so important for women in business.
