Hello Brave Friends! This is an Ask Us Anything episode in which YOU, the listener, get to write or call in and, you guessed it, ASK US ANYTHING!
In this episode, #185, we are responding to the question, Can Caregiving Dads be Accepted into Mom Groups?
Another amazing question to close out Season 6! First off, thank you to this Dad for calling in and posing this vulnerable question. I know a lot of parents are going to benefit from this conversation.
It seems that because mom’s historically outnumber dad’s in the role of primary caregiver and are socialized to be more open to support, among a host of other reasons, most of the parenting groups are geared towards moms. And when dads try to join them, they may not always feel welcomed. For example, this caller expressed being turned away from some groups because they were “only for moms”.
In this episode we discuss: the reasons men may not be welcomed into these groups, ways men can approach these groups to more readily be accepted and we offer links to fathering groups and resources below.
Thank you so much for listening and calling in with your questions this season. We are taking a Summer Break but will be releasing Ask Us Anything “ReRuns” to keep you supported. We will be back, BETTER THAN EVER, in September for Season 7, so keep those questions coming! We see you and we love you!
