Card Talk

Thanks a lot, NFLPA!

We were all set to bless our Card Talk audience with a well planned hour of college football chatter. And we KNOW how much our audience loves a good full hour of Penn State vs Ohio State vs Georgia!

But no.. not this time. You had to go and ruin it. You just HAD TO go and pull the license from Panini, causing us to do a 180 at the last second and dive in to all the "what if's" and potential fallout of such a decision.

What's next for Panini? What's next for Fanatics? Most importantly, what does it all mean for US, the collectors? Right now, there are more questions than answers, but the boys are back in studio to do they best they can to address this monumental moment in the hobby.

But have no fear... even with this minor distraction, and even with Tyler in the Swiss Alps, and even with Lou getting engaged this week... there is STILL a decent amount of college football talk! We're also talking an MJ Flu Game wristband sale and a crack & smack PSA 5 that became a BGS 10 (huh?!).

Tune in for all of that PLUS a couple q&a questions... and a sneaky interesting latest launch due to all the uncertainty in the market!

The NFL Preseason is fully underway, with the Jets destroying Bryce Young and the Panthers 27-0 on Saturday. No chance Lou and Tyler are ready to overreact to such a scenario. Absolutely no chance.

However, all the good feels for Lou and Jay did not carry over in the way of luck in their first NT case break, as they each picked up a couple of random teams and hit exactly 0 cards. Tough lesson.

With that said, the quarterback market remains hot.. Brock Purdy's NT shield reportedly sold privately for 100k+, but even guys like Desmond Ridder, Malik Cunningham, Sam Howell and Malik Willis are seeing some large sales on eBay lately. Are any of those guys a buy? Also, is it EVER worth it to buy a running backs cards early in their career?

Speaking of running backs, the Pats picked up Zeke Elliot and the Jets signed some guy named Dalvin Cook (no big deal). Is Ryan ready to concede the AFC East to HIS GUY Garrett Wilson and the Jets? That answer might surprise you... but it might not be as shocking as the flowers he throws his most hated team on the planet - the Michigan Wolverines - in this episode!

Tune in for all of that PLUS Play of the Week is BACK!

What.

A.

Week.

There are fights everywhere. Panini vs Fanatics. Tim Anderson vs. Jose Ramirez. Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz. Derek Jeter vs Lou Geneux. We're here to break it all down!

Besides that, the NFL kicked off their preseason with the Hall of Fame game as the future 2023 Super Bowl Champion New York Jets and the Browns met up in Canton to a wildly large television audience. Football runs the world... and it appears that it also currently runs the hobby.

People lined up for 16+ hours to get their hands on the Lorcana release at GenCon, 2022 National Treasures Football is set to release this week, the Wemby Superfractor was pulled and we have some great Q&A, as always.

Stay tuned for an upcoming announcement of when the whole squad will be back in Columbus, Ohio for trade night!

The boys are back with just a week to go before we're in Chicago for the National!

On this episode, we go heavy with National related Q&A from our followers... but first, Carlos Alcaraz took down Novak Djokovic in an epic Wimbledon finals match and Tyler couldn't be more upset that he never transacted on a single NetPro Alcaraz card despite shouting out to anybody who would listed what a great buy those would be.

Also... Fanatics announced their latest venture "Fanatics Events" this week... but is another events company putting on card & memorabilia shows good for the hobby? Kith announced a sneaker collab with Marvel and PSA that highlights collectibles, obviously Tyler and Lou want a pair! The Barbie Movie is out, but Lou's wondering why no major juice in the Barbie collectibles market?

Tune in for all of that PLUS Play of the Week is BACK!! (and you might be surprised when you see which sport was featured on the winning play)

Time Stamps:

:48 - What's on Your Mind (Tyler) - Carlos Alcaraz

4:42 - What's on Your Mind (Lou) - Barbie Movie

9:01 - What's on Your Mind (Ryan) - The National 7 days away!

Q&A

22:59 - Card markets are starting to pop off in Europe. Do you ever think a European show will match the National?

26:45 - What NFL backup QB do you think the most people will be looking for?

29:56 - Who is the current best buy at the National in the NBA

35:30 - For the first time attending collectors, what's the best approach? As far as where do you recommend starting? I know there's exclusives and lines so just wondering how each of you go about it.

41:55 - What do each of you find to be the most overrated and underrated thing(s) about the National? (does it irk you as much as it irks me when people call it the Nationals?)

47:47 - I’m traveling over from Sweden to my first National and looking forward to the experience. But my question is, I’m there to try to sell a high end card (Othani Red refractor RC auto). Do you have any advice on what is the best way to do that?

After a 2 week break in which Ryan and Reg welcomed baby CC3 to the family, the boys are BACK in studio just a few weeks away from the National. We are also pumped to say hello (for the time being) to the CardCollector2 YouTube page while we work on getting our ONE37pm channel back live.

It's a huge week in sports... we're talking Wimbledon, the Tour de Frahhh, the Home Run Derby, the MLB Draft, Elly De La Cruz, and more... but in the card world, we're talking Jack Harlow's Pokemon collection, the Topps Now innovations including the Elly 3 base relics, the Wemby Yankees first pitch card, Lil Baby autos in Allen & Ginter, Tom Brady to have a card in this year’s Bowman Draft Baseball, and some monster pulls including:

The NBA crowned a new champion on Monday night as the Nuggets predictably dropped the Heat, making light work of them in 5 games. Even still, is Nikola Jokic one of the most under-appreciated players in the hobby?

Also, we have entered a bit of a slow period in sports, or as Lou would call it "baseball time"... but before we all know it, the National will arrive and then NFL training camp will be back! There were some huge pulls by  @dcsports8866   @mojobreak  & Bleacher Hits this week, Messi is headed to MLS to play for Miami AND Upper Deck is taking Disney Lorcana (Ravensburger) to court ahead of their big upcoming release.

Tune in for all of that plus another great round of Instagram Q&A!

This will likely go down as the weirdest and most random 20 minutes to start a show that we've ever had in our 147 studio recordings, with all topics in play. We're talking:

- Aliens

- LIV Golf (with breaking news mid-recording)

- Pickleball paddles

- Apple Vision Pro

You know... all the topics that the most hardcore card collectors are discussing! But after the dust settled, it was actually quite a week in the hobby, so the boys found some time to get in to that as well.

The Heat are surprisingly making a series of things with the Nuggets. Las Vegas is an elite home for the Stanley Cup Finals, as the first two games out there have been an electric factory. The $250k Druw Jones Superfractor Bounty was accepted by a grandfather in (of course) Ohio. Wemby autos out of Bowman Chrome U are redemptions... so how do they determine who gets the "first card I ever signed" inscription?

Tune in for all of that PLUS another great round of questions from our Instagram followers!

Time Stamps:

:59 - What's on your mind (Lou) *Aliens

2:34 - Breaking News... LIV & PGA Tours merge

5:16 - What's on your mind (Lou) continued

6:31 - What's on your mind (Tyler) *Apple Vision Pro + unboxing

Instagram Q&A:

42:04 - If you could change the outcome of any sporting event, what would it be?
