This week we invite you to think about the Body Positivity movement, and being comfortable in your own skin while we confront the topic of body modification and elective surgeries that involve implants. If you are considering a physical modification to your body It's important to understand the risks, the inflammatory conditions that can erupt, and how these problems can erode your health so you can identify the root cause of these issues if they arise for you.
One Woman's Incredible Journey
To navigate this difficult conversation I was joined by Candice Barley on Nutrition Without Compromise. She shared her reasons for getting breast implants (4 times over), and her ultimate decision to remove them through explant surgery "en block" because she was so sick for so long.
But No One Believed Her
She talks about the incredible health challenges she faced for years and how she suddenly just knew that her sickness was caused by her breast implants. Sadly, no one believed her.
Becoming A Patient Advocate
She had to learn to advocate for herself - and now she does the same for other women who need help on their health journeys related to Breast Implant Illness (BII).
There's A Better Way
There is a better way to increase your breast size - using your own body's fat stores. Breast reconstruction and breast augmentation can both be solved naturally. Candice shares about these options. The doctor she advocates for, Dr. Robert Whitfield, recently expanded on these methods in his guest appearance on Dave Asprey's The Human Upgrade (hotlinked from our episode page). You should definitely give that a listen after this show.
About Candice Barley
Candice Barley is an actress, producer, and mother of three sons who turned into a Patient Advocate as a result of being incapacitated from the effects of her breast implants. She began sharing her journey first on the red carpet and now uses her different platforms to share resources, products, and interviews with expert doctors, to help educate and empower women with breast implants.
Key takeaways from this episode:
- Candice’s awakening as a patient advocate
- What it is like to undergo breast explant surgery
- Effects of breast implant surgery
- The recovery process from breast explant surgery
- Alternatives for breast augmentation

Public lands are reserved for everyone’s benefit. Despite this, they are continuously scarred and killed by deforestation and wildfires. If these areas are not conserved properly, the next generations might not even see their true beauty ever again. Joining Corinna Bellizzi is Jeffrey H. Ryan, whose latest book This land Was Saved For You and Me talks about the importance of public land conservation. He highlights in his book the heroes who made a stand to save public lands from total destruction, as well as the nemeses who tried to stop their noble efforts. Jeffrey also discusses the physical and mental benefits of going on a hike and the best ways to support reforestation efforts.
About Guest:
Jeffrey H. Ryan is passionate about the outdoors and the conservation of public land, whose work has been cited in Forbes, USA Today, Appalachia and other notable publications. He is the author of Appalachian Odyssey (2016) and Blazing Ahead (2017). He lives in Portland, Maine.

The efforts to restore and regenerate the planet must not only fall upon the shoulders of the consumers. Corporations that use the earth’s resources in huge quantities must also actively participate in building a healthy environment for everyone. Corinna Bellizzi dives into this topic with Forbes contributor Esha Chhabra. She talks about her book, Working to Restore, which showcases mission-driven companies who achieved success in their regenerative approaches. Esha explains how to make such solutions mainstream to fix the broken sustainability model and the confusing certification industry.
About Guest:
Esha Chhabra has been a writer and journalist focused on global development, environment, and business for over a decade. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Economist, Guardian, Forbes, The Washington Post, Fast Company, Wired, and more. She goes beyond the greenwashing to determine if companies are actually pushing the needle. Her work has been supported by the UN Foundation and the Pulitzer Center in Washington, DC. Esha's a graduate of Georgetown University and the London School of Economics and Politics Science. She calls southern California home.

Eating meat is such an everyday thing for most people that discussions about on animal protection are pretty rare or almost nonexisten. A lot of farmed animals are raised inhumanely and treated not as living things but as mere commodities. In this episode, Corinna Bellizzi chats with AJ Albrecht, Managing Director of Mercy for Animals, an organization that aims to end industrial animal agriculture by constructing a sustainable food system. She talks about the dangers of factory farming to animals, the need for more organic food choices, and the benefits of adopting a plant-based diet. AJ also shares their efforts to pass a bill that shifts the responsibility of the broken food system from everyday consumers to major corporations profiting from factory farming.
About Guest:
AJ Albrecht is the Managing Director of Mercy For Animals in the United States and Canada. She joined Mercy For Animals in 2019 as the organization’s first U.S. government affairs team member, where she built and led the government affairs and public policy team for three years before stepping into her current role. A licensed attorney, AJ is the immediate past chair of the American Bar Association’s Animal Law Committee, a past chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Animal Law Committee, and the founder of the East Orange Animal Alliance. We know so little about honeybees, but the way they move and form colonies are very telling indeed. When Henry Svec and his wife Mary converted their 50-acre farm into a honeybee sanctuary, he learned a lot not only about taking care of them but also about preserving nature. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, the Founder of Wildflower Bee Farm and Author of “What Grandpa Learned from His Honeybees” shares how the hive-building behavior of honeybees opened his eyes to nature's interconnectedness and why it should be allowed to heal by itself. Henry also discusses some myths regarding bees and honey, maximizing the effect of beneficial bacteria, the advantages of land banking, and the benefits of infrared light to honeybee farms.
About Guest:
Henry Svec is the Founder of Wildflower Bee Farm and Author of “What Grandpa Learned from His Honeybees.” In late 2019, he and his wife Mary converted their 50-acre cash crop farm in Southwestern Ontario into a bee sanctuary, where they have been chronicling their daily work through weekly videos since January 2020. Henry is also a full-time value investor and lead investigator focusing on healthcare fraud for charterjustice.ca.

Care More, Be Better is officially two years old! To celebrate this milestone, Corinna Bellizzi talks with return guest Beth Craig of Own it Economics about reducing carbon footprint in extravagant cruise vacations. They delve into how wasteful these trips really are, which requires a high carbon cost to run and tons of waste to be dumped into the sea. Beth explains how to contribute to carbon neutrality and negativity in the cruising industry and beyond without coming across as overwhelming. She explains how a few dollars can go a long way in paying for your carbon footprint, saving the planet one small effort at a time. To mark the podcast’s anniversary, Corinna shares a musical performance by Donna Grantis at the Canadian Climate Music Summit that features a soundbite from one of the show’s episodes.
About Guests:
Beth Craig is a self-employed consultant, teacher, and writer who teaches students about supply chain issues, social justice, and environmental sustainability. She is a reliable expert in leadership, project planning and management, advertising, sales, and legal writing. Beth has been living with a negative carbon footprint for the last couple of years, and she has discovered that the negative is a new positive.

The rapid technological evolution brings rapid progress in our daily lives. At the same time, it also results in eco-anxiety. Where are we actually going? How much damage are we doing with our digital advancement? Can humans and the entire planet keep up with these changes? Lee Schneider aims to address this feeling of dread in his novel, Surrender. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, he explains how telling a story about a dystopian future can shed light on the double-edge sword of collective progress. Lee talks about using AI bots with extreme cautiousness and why they can never replace actual human jobs. He also delves into how technology could be causing social anxiety issues and tech bro companies turning people into mere fuels for the engine of commerce.
