Most Aesthetic Clinicians offer Botox 'follow up' or 'review' appointments. But, should we be doing them as a matter of course; what causes them in the first place; and how should we tackle the dreaded 'Spock brow' or - every injector's worst nightmare - an underwhelmed patient?!
In this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show, Dr Tim dives into Botox tweaks.
Let us know in the comments if this helped.

What are the ingredients to make a really fantastic injector? This week Dr Tim reveals how he's often asked for his top tips that help set him and other top injectors like him apart from the crowd.
Watch and listen to Tim set out the battles that need to be won on your journey to mastery!
Tim covers:
(1) The identity crisis - when starting out in medical aesthetics, we have to work out 'Who or what am I now?' - you're used to being a hardcore medical nurse or doctor but how does working in aesthetics affect how you feel, how to interact, what you stand for...even how you dress
(2) Competence - often injectors will focus on the technical skills (the injections) but the truth is that this is only built on many other layers of knowledge which underpin these skills and help you adapt
(3) Treatment design - think of the architect here whereas the technique is like the bricklayer. You need both to become the best injector you can be. Treatment design is where you assemble all those techniques in perfect execution.
(4) The aesthetic - learn the nuanced skill of understanding the aesthetic - the ability to understand what it is that makes someone look sad, angry, or beautiful. What's the aesthetic goal? Technical good injections don't guarantee aesthetically beautiful results.
(5) Anatomy & physiology - knowing all the layers and structures and how they all work together are KEY to developing outstanding treatment designs and understanding how the products you're using will behave over time. The face is always moving so we have to learn to think in terms of 'dynamic beauty'
(6) Complications - how to avoid complications is the best lesson but when things do go wrong to understand how to identify and then manage the consequences safely and quickly
(7) Patient psychology - the consultation! How we can develop skills over time to REALLY understand what our patients are thinking and feeling and then...how to build these factors into your treatment plan

It's easy to get caught up in the pursuit of injection technique mastery, and conquering anatomy and the aesthetic rules, then forget that there is a higher 'God' of aesthetics …the patient's psycho-social wellbeing.
In this week's Aesthetics Mastery show, Dr Tim argues for a hierarchy of intervention justifications, and suggests that those clinicians who get everything aligned stand to gain job satisfaction, business success, and the ultimate prize: truly impacting their patients' lives.
Drop us your two cents in the comments.

In April 2021 Professor Sebastian Cotofana published an important new paper exploring an alternative botulinum toxin injection pattern for glabella treatments, with the goal of avoiding medial brow ptoses.
In this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show, Dr Tim explores the potential pros and cons of the new 3-point technique, including the alternative angle of entry, and asks whether injectors should abandon the licenced doses altogether?
Here is a link to Professor Cotofana's paper: Respecting upper facial anatomy for treating the glabella with neuromodulators to avoid medial brow ptosis—A refined 3‐point injection technique https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33817912/

In November 2020, Dr Marina Landau published an article in the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology describing an unnerving newly identified complication: morphea-like lesions following Botox injections.
In this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show, Dr Tim explores what can only be described as a 'dent' effect in patients' foreheads; unpacks the likely cause; and explains the practical steps practitioners can take to avoid causing the side effect in the first place.
Here are the articles Dr Tim mentions in the Show, starting with Dr Landau's research:

Hashtags can be triggering. Most injectors don't have a marketing background, so the language of Instagram can feel alien and confusing.
What are hashtags? Why should injectors be using them? Where's the best place to put them? How many should we use? And which ones should we use?
Thankfully Dr Tim's wife, Miranda, is an expert on marketing for aesthetic clinicians. In this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show she answers all the above questions about hashtags, so that you can use them to attract more of your dream customers to your Instagram posts.

Last week a picture was leaked of Khloe Kardashian in a bikini looking beautiful, but...shock horror, normal!
Her PR team quickly scrambled to retract the picture, but it was too late, and the internet of 'normal' women had turned against Khloe, crying 'Fake!'
Khloe replied that she was the victim of society's unrealistic expectations, but many accused her of augmenting those with her massive influence.
Who is 'right' in this situation, and should we as aesthetic clinicians be striving to show only 'real' beauty on our social media pages?
Dr Tim and Miranda discuss this important topic in this week's Aesthetics Mastery Show. Let us know your views in the comments.

In this week's Aesthetics Mastery show, Dr Tim reveals the results of his global research survey in which he asked 1,503 aesthetic clinicians if they had suffered a reaction to their dermal filler following the Covid-19 vaccine.
The results are very interesting, especially in regards to whether the AstraZeneca, Pfizer or Moderna vaccines caused the highest number of reactions, and whether participants' chosen filler brand had an impact.
Dr Tim also shares some useful data about the effect of pre-existing health concerns, for example, autoimmune diseases, on the vaccine + filler reaction rate. He also explains how long you should advise your patients to leave between having dermal filler treatment and the Covid vaccine.
This show is essential viewing for all aesthetic clinicians because a high proportion of your patients are likely to ask you about the impact of the vaccine on their past and/or future dermal filler treatments.
