  1. Number 1: 1439: Nobody Quits On Purpose

Tuesday, September 1st. 7pm Eastern. Two hours, live with me. A comprehensive DEFENSE workshop to find your specific vulnerabilities: the exact places your follow-through breaks down, why it breaks there, and what to do about it. Plus the DEFENSE Master Playbook, eighty-plus pages, yours to keep. $47. No free replay. → Save your seat There was never a moment you decided to quit. That's what nobody says about this. You didn't wake up one day and choose to abandon the thing. There was no dramatic collapse, no rock bottom, no decision at all. It just got quieter. And then it was gone. And you couldn't tell me the week it left, because there wasn't one. That's the fade, and this episode is about why it happens to all of us, on a schedule, and what it has already cost you. In this episode: Why motivation is the worst possible foundation for something you want to keep. It's a battery. Every battery runs down. If your plan depends on it, your plan has an expiration date built into it and you just haven't looked at it yet. The full anatomy of the loop: motivation gets you started, novelty wears off, engagement drops with it, drift becomes disengagement, results go sideways, frustration rises, and frustration at a high enough level feels exactly like motivation. So you start something new. And around you go, sometimes for decades, on the same handful of goals. The one thing I ask every DEFENSE client to do on day one, and why it costs nothing and you can do it today without me. A story about my contacts that is deeply unimpressive and will probably describe your entire life. John Stephen Akhwari, the 1968 Olympic marathon, and the second thing he said that almost nobody quotes. It's not the grit line. It's better than the grit line, and it points at something completely different than what you think this story is about. Why I came in dead last in every cross country race of my childhood, why sitting down in the middle of the course was completely justifiable, and why true and helpful are not the same thing. The question I sat with that I did not enjoy: what would I not be struggling with if I was actually giving it my all? And the uncomfortable one: think about the thing you've been working on the longest. All those starts, all those good weeks, all those strong Januaries laid end to end instead of scattered across fifteen years. You could have finished it already. That's not harsh. That's the good news. It means the thing standing between you and that goal is much smaller than you think. The part that actually matters Everything you have ever tried has been offense. A better plan. More information. More rules. More discipline. A cleaner start with a fresh calendar. And offense was never where you were losing. You were losing in ten or fifteen moments a week where the plan got quietly renegotiated. Where a sentence showed up in your own voice that sounded completely reasonable and handed you permission to do something else. Those moments aren't random. They aren't unique to your life. They're a small, predictable handful of patterns wearing different outfits, and they will follow you into the next plan and the one after that until somebody helps you find them. Defense is that work. September 1st. One night. Not a month. I'm not asking you for two calls a week or homework you'll fall behind on or one more thing you signed up for in good faith and quietly stopped opening. Two hours. Live. Let's find out how much we can shake loose. You'll leave with your specific vulnerabilities identified and the DEFENSE Master Playbook in hand: every permission slip I've watched people talk themselves into across multiple cohorts, named and sorted, with the counter-argument that holds up under pressure. Some of you will walk out with enough and won't need another thing from me. That's the point. Tuesday, September 1 · 7:00pm ET · $47 There is no free replay. → Save your seat

  2. Number 2: 1440: You Meant It When You Made the Plan

You really did mean it when you made the plan. You were motivated. The goal felt urgent. You were clear about what you wanted and what you were willing to do to get there. But the person who makes the plan and the person who has to negotiate with that plan later often have very different priorities. In this episode, we’re talking about what happens when the version of you who wants the long-term outcome runs into the version of you who wants something else right now—the extra hour of sleep, the thing that’s on sale, the relief, the exception. I’ll share a real example of how I use DEFENSE with my own financial goals, why “permission logic” can be so convincing even when you know exactly what you want, and why some of our most important work happens before we ever reach the moment where we’re tempted to change the plan. Your plan isn’t finished when you decide what you’re going to do. You need a defense for the person who’s going to negotiate with it. Tomorrow night, September 1st, I’m teaching a live two-hour DEFENSE workshop where we’ll work on exactly this: where your gaps open, the permission patterns that make moving the target feel reasonable, how to respond to them, and how to change some of the conditions upstream so those moments happen less often. The workshop is $47 and includes the complete 80+ page DEFENSE Master Playbook. There is no replay. 3. Number 3: 1437: Why You Keep Drifting & Disengaging + What Needs to Change

Successful people ask for help. So why is it so hard to do? A client of Amy Porterfield's said something that stopped me: though she was resistant to asking for help, staying stuck finally felt worse than asking. If I had a drinking game with my clients, they'd have to drink every time I say successful people ask for help. I teach it constantly. And still, so many people try to do it all by themselves. They hide. They withdraw. They don't leverage the resources available to them. And they struggle. So today I'm going through what actually keeps us from asking. In this episode: Why "I've always just been a do it by myself person" isn't a personality trait The two very different fears hiding inside shame, and why they produce the same silence What you're really avoiding when you avoid asking for help Why "I'm not ready to change that" doesn't mean you're not ready for anything, and the Chick-fil-A order that proved it to me "I already know what to do" and why it answers a question nobody asked The least charitable assumption we make about the people we could be asking Why I ask my friends for help with things I could do myself Three ways to start asking when asking feels impossible Join me on Substack. 4. Number 4: 1435: Here's Why You Should Ditch Consistency (For Real)

I'm being 100% serious: maybe you should throw away the word consistency entirely, and the pursuit of it, and in this episode I'm going to tell you exactly why this might be the breakthrough you didn't know you needed. The August cohort of DEFENSE Foundations starts today. This is the last chance to join us. If this episode landed, elizabethbenton.com/defense. This is the final chance ever for pay what you can pricing!

  5. Number 5: 1438: Because Comfort Has Gone Too Far

What if the enemy's greatest weapon isn't pain... but comfort? We've been taught to put ourselves first, protect our peace, and give ourselves what we want. While much of that started from a healthy place, I wonder if we've swung too far. What if, in the pursuit of self-care, we've confused care with comfort? In this episode, I explore how our desire to avoid discomfort may be quietly costing us the very things we want most—from our health and finances to our relationships and resilience. I also share a simple practice I use with my kids (and now with myself) called strategic disappointment and why intentionally telling yourself "no" might be one of the most powerful forms of self-care. If you've ever struggled to choose what you want most over what you want right now, this conversation is for you. Continue the conversation: If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to have you join me on Substack. Every week I publish free essays exploring the tension between what you want right now and what you want most, with practical ways to make decisions that move you toward the life you're trying to build.
