Start spreading the news!

By tuning in to the HHH at 8PM CST tonight! And sorry - I figured I should be about the 3,294th Nebraska outlet to use the New York New York line. But no matter what retreaded lyric I use, the fact was we couldn’t take a nap for the last 10 days or so without missing a hiring, firing, leaving, portal entering, recruit signing or bowl announcement.

And we’ll buzz through it all tonight while I add my thoughts on air and you add yours in the comments. And please add them in the comments!!

We won’t all agree, but it’ll be fun since so many of us take this “Happy Hour” with the seriousness it deserves. So pour a cold one - or hot one if Irish coffee is your thing - and belly up. 

There’s a lot going on!

This week on Monday Night Therapy, it is the crossover show for the ages. 

Jon Johnston is off tonight and asked the Corn Nation Overreaction Crew to stand in for him.

What are Greg, Hoss, and Jake overreacting to tonight? 

We learned on Sunday that Nebraska was selected to go to the Big Apple for the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. The Huskers will take on Boston College. The Eagles finished the regular season 7-5 and ninth place in the ACC, exactly the middle of the 17-team league. 

We also learned since our last show that the floodgates would open and the exodus from Lincoln would begin. The linchpin seemed to be Tony White’s (and Terrance Knighton) departure to Florida State, something announced last week. We won’t necessarily rehash all of the portal news from the last week, but we will at least address the Emmett Johnson portal entry and subsequent return to Lincoln. 

The Overreaction guys are happy Johnson is staying a Husker, almost as much as we miss Johnston being here on the show tonight. 

And due to the cast change for tonight, we have a time change as well. Tonight’s show will begin at 9pm Central. We apologize for the inconvenience but we hope to be efficient and get out in a timely manner.

We have an unbelievably fun show planned tonight on the Five Heart Podcast. There is so much to cover as we put the last nail in the Iowa loss (last Friday). After the dust settled, we learned a few things about that game.

Lots of staff changes have taken place this week. As rumors began circling first thing Monday morning about Tony White leaving to become the Defensive Coordinator for FSU and the possibility of Terrance Knighton leaving as well.

With the announcement of coaching departures, came the news that several players have entered the transfer portal. NCAA has capped the roster to 105 players next season from the 150 we’ve been allotted this year. So far we have 15 guys leaving through the portal, 13 seniors graduating but 20 players that have newly signed. That’s still over by 53 players. As the saying goes, ‘that math isn’t mathing’.

Speaking of our newly signed players, Nebraska now has the 19th ranked signing class for 2025. With six 4 star and fourteen 3 star additions, the early signing period has shaped up quite well. We still have through February 5th to add more players to this class.

The team has been busy practicing and lifting this week as we finally get those elusive 15ish extra bowl game practices that we’ve missed out on for the last 8 years. I love the fact that it doesn’t look like those 13 seniors that I mentioned before will be opting out of the bowl game. Headed to these practices have special meaning for the team but even more so to those seniors.

Lastly, those black shorts have done us proud! (AGAIN). Nebraska will be hosting Florida A&M Friday night at 8pm.

A review of another loss to Iowa, this one which the Huskers thoroughly dominated for all but 3 or 4 plays. But those 3 or 4…oof!

But there was no rest for the reddish as what will be a crazy offseason started with a bang. Tony White’s leaving (not a shocker, actually a good move for him), but Dana Holgorsen’s staying. 

And the largest portal in its short history is opening.

Plenty of questions abound. Who will be the new DC? Where are we going bowling? Can the Huskers pledge no early Xmas gifts to Iowa next season? What will the defense look like?

It may seem like there is more bad news than good news where Husker athletics are concerned. The Husker Black Shorts are the number 2 seed but against Penn State the girls didn’t look as crisp.  Merritt Beason hit .091 as the team limped to a .154 attack percentage. But it was fallout from the vitriol of some “fans” and haters alike on social media that drew equal headlines.

Beth will be here tonight to walk us through the match that got away and Saturday’s win against Maryland which helped clinch a share of the Big Ten title for the Husker women.

Monday brought a host of changes to Nebraska Football as both coaching staff and players have declared their intent to leave for perceived greener pastures. Tony White is headed to Florida State to take the same job he is leaving behind in Lincoln, and it appears Terrance Knighton is going with him.

And a few players have already declared their intent to enter the transfer portal, as Gabe Ervin Jr, Vincent Jackson, and Jimari Butler are saying goodbye to Lincoln.

Tonight, Jon and Minnie will talk about the departures and one very important retention, Dana Holgorsen.

The regular season is over. Nebraska finishes 6-6 after falling to the Iowa Hawkeyes 13-10 on Friday night in Iowa City. 

From pre-game shenanigans to missed opportunities while the clock was running, all-in-all it was an ugly day in an ugly state surrounded by ugly people. 

The defense was solid with the exception of the screen pass to Caleb Johnson that was the Hawkeyes’ lone touchdown. But it wasn’t enough to overcome passes either overthrown or missed and bad special teams play.

How did the Hawkeye Hicks treat our beloved Hoss, who attended the game in Iowa City for the second time in a row? 

The big OVERreaction after Friday was going down the list of people to fire. While we expect some changes to the coaching staff for one reason or another, it should be noted that none of the main players are likely to go anywhere (this assumes Dana Holgorsen’s agreeing to stay in Lincoln after this season, which...he should).

The lady Huskers have been very busy dominating since Beth last visited Five Heart with the team now ranked #2 in the Power 10 and are preparing to take on #3 Penn State this Friday. Beth has the best volleyball insights, so you won’t want to miss it.

Lastly, did you hear about Iowa? They are calling for a “Back in Black-Blackout” this Friday at Kinnick Stadium. Add this to the unlimited list of reasons to hate Iowa and come prepared to contribute to this list as we would like to see how many we can name.

It was a very good weekend for our beloved Cornhuskers.

The Nebraska men’s basketball team defeated Creighton, ranked Creighton, and in doing so held their star Ryan Kalkbrenner to four total points, all from the free throw line. Given his performance before that game, that is a most incredible stat, and I hope it bodes well for the rest of the men’s basketball season.

The women lost to Creighton, and sadly, before that, they also lost Natalie Potts, last year’s Big Ten Freshman of the Year, for the season with an ACL injury. The women are still ranked 25th in the nation, and the men are garnering votes.

Then we get to the biggest news of the weekend, where Nebraska crushed the Wisconsin Badgers, winning their sixth win, earning them the right to go to a bowl game, and exorcizing a lot of demons.

They scored on every possession in the red zone, and given that they were 127th in the red zone coming into this game, that’s pretty impressive.

To top all that off, Nebraska volleyball swept Wisconsin!

It was a really fun weekend all around, and while everybody seems to be focusing on the we’re going to a bowl game aspect of this, we can top the regular season off by beating those sons of bitches from Iowa.

Wouldn’t that be great?

This week on the premier reaction podcast/live show out there, the Corn Nation Overreaction, Greg, Hoss, and Jake will break down Nebraska’s sixth win of the season, the 44-25 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Huskers are bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016 and toppled Wiscy for the first time since September 2012. And it happened in Matt Rhule’s second year, Dylan Raiola’s eleventh game, and Dana Holgorsen’s second game.

While the two teams traded scores early (we see you and we appreciate you, Heinrich Haarberg), Nebraska never trailed and looked in control the entire game.

Emmett Johnson became the Huskers’ first 100-yard rusher of the season. Raiola threw for almost 300 yards, and the defense was good enough to beat the Badgers to the Bowl Game (context: Wisconsin is also seeking their sixth win of the season).

What did the guys think of the game and how much confidence did yesterday’s contest inspire heading to Iowa City next week?

This non-formatted, off-the-cuff live show is less of a “show” and more of an excuse to get together with the community to bask in the feeling of bowl eligibility.

The Nebraska football team exorcised two big demons tonight.

A) The first win against Wisconsin since the iPhone 4 was new

2) Being bowl eligible for the first time since the Obama administration.

But today, the Huskers put on a dominating performance against the Badgers, winning the Freedom Trophy with a decisive 44-25 tilt.

Timely defensive stops, a perfect kicker, a hundred-yard rusher...it was a thing of beauty.

Tonight is not about X’s and O’s. That will happen tomorrow for the OFFICIAL Corn Nation Overreaction. Tonight is just about friends and fanamily gathering together to celebrate. For some of us, our internet Husker community is our ONLY Husker community.
