Have you ever had the hope in your life that someday you would arrive at a point of spiritual maturity where you no were longer triggered by anything? You were no longer triggered by your spouse, or your kids, or your parents, or your co workers, or that really annoying person in your life, or maybe even no longer triggered by your own self? 

I have had this wish for most of my life! I think I have imagined that someday there would hopefully be some epic moment of arrival where I was eternally happy and unaffected by emotional challenges because I'd finally figured out how to master the game of life and had transcended it. If reaching that arrival is even possible, I am still a long ways out, and more so, I don't know that I have ever met anyone who has ever arrived at perfect peace and stayed there forever afterwards no matter what. All the people I know still get off balance...some are better than others at responding to those moments, but I don't know anyone who is no longer triggered by anything. With that said, I think talking about the nature of trigger and response is a worthwhile conversation. Perhaps if we understood some of the mechanics of what happens when we're triggered we can in the very least, get better at responding.

Human emotion needs expression not suppression. Yes, that means how to express anger, rage, disappointment, grief, sadness, jealousy, and more. This is part 3 in a series I'm calling "Reclamation of Feeling". In this episode we're talking about spiritual bypassing. This was a term I've only learned in the last few years but I have experienced this emotional block my entire life, as I'm sure you have as well. Knowing what it is and what it looks like has been a key piece in learning how to regulate my emotions and move through things with more love and compassion. In this episode we are going to explore how to travel from one emotional state to another. We've all experienced what it's like to have emotions we resist, where we wish in the moment to feel different. To feel better, whatever better is. But the challenge with emotion, is that you don't immediately go from a low state to a high state. You don't immediately go from feeling anger to feeling happy. Or from disappointment to contentment. Especially if you are actively resisting what you are feeling in the moment. There's too big of a gap between the two states, and in today we are going to learn about what exists in the gap. It's what I call The Land of Observation, and knowing about this place in the gap has been transformative in my journey of Reclamation of Feeling.

In my journey to embody more love and to live with One Heart, I have discovered that my ability to access love has a lot to do with my relationship to emotions. And truth be told, that relationship can be complicated. I can be all over the place from full out numbing myself from painful feelings, to making my emotions mean something about me or others, to spiritually bypassing anything uncomfortable in effort to be positive or more spiritual and fix myself. I invite you to join me in this new series on the podcast I'm calling Reclamation of Feeling. A reclamation is to reclaim something, and what I'm declaring a reclamation for, is the pure marvel it is to be a human with a body that feels. When we disassociate from our feelings because we are afraid to feel something, whether that feeling is pain or even hope and joy, we narrow our experience of life. Instead of living in a world of full color and vibrancy, we tone it down to a life of gray because it feels safer. But life is meant to lived fully. There is so much depth and richness we miss out on when we limit our experience. And most importantly, in so doing we also limit what its like to fully embody love.

Have you ever experienced a downward spiral? Those moments that knock you off course, and then it's all downhill from there?  We all have our triggers that can set things in motion... what we don't always realize is the spiral can be traveled in two different directions.  In this episode we're going to talk about spiraling up, not down, and how understanding the spiral nature of our own growth can help us live with more compassion for ourselves and others. 

You hear me over and over on this podcast state that my journey to unconditional love has required me to let go of seeking love outside of me and to find the love that exists inside. The love that is everlasting and always present in each and every human if we can but let go of the judgements and egoic mind that block our awareness. 

While it has been crucial for me to go inward for love, what does this mean in context of community? Especially if you find yourself going through any type of challenge in which you feel isolated and alone? I’m looking forward to going deeper into the need we all have  for belonging and community.

In this episode I'm going to continue Part 2 of my Love story. And I have to say that in over ten years of podcasting, this episode is hands down the most vulnerable episode I've ever done. That being said, I want to preface by letting you know my two personal guidelines for vulnerability..

1. First, I never publicly share my stories when I am in the messy middle. I always always wait until I am in a neutral place and have progressed through any experience far enough to be able to have some healthy detachment. 
2. Second, I only share with purpose. And always my purpose is to teach a principle. The principle I'm teaching in this story is unconditional love---which you will probably quickly notice, you don't hear about unconditional love in this story until the end. What you will hear instead is a lot about rejection and judgement. But life often teaches us most profoundly through contrast. For me, I could not know what true love was, until I learned what love is not.

Today I wanted to share with you part one of my love story. This is a little different than the love story genre we usually hear about. This is not a romantic love story, rather it is my own personal journey from living in the reality of conditional love and judgement to living in the reality of unconditional love and acceptance. I talk a lot about unconditional love on this podcast, because I believe that is what real love is. A question that often arises when you begin to explore unconditional love after living with conditions for so long, is, if love has no conditions, then how do you not just become a doormat? How does the world not just go crazy? These questions are really the result of being taught fear instead of love, and I think this is a really important distinction to get clear on so we can create a more peaceful world to live in.
