  • Gavin James and Gail Platt Could Be Related
Just when we thought we couldn't love Gavin James anymore, turns out we were wrong.
Today on Dermot amp; Dave, producer Maria was chatting about all things entertainment, when Coronation Street came up.
Maz revealed that some of the older cast members of the ITV soup may not be able to return to the show until 2021 due to Covid-19. Production on the show was suspended back in March after the British Government announced a nationwide lockdown in order to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.
Show bosses are now putting a plan together to return to work, and some of the precautions being looked at in order to ensure the safety of all staff members on set are social distancing and limiting the number of older cast members on set.
This got Maria and the lads chatting about what characters might be impacted by the new rules.
Dave then Googled the actress who plays Gail Platt, and found out her real name is Cathryn Wigglesworth, sharing the same second name as Ireland's beloved Gavin James.

  • Pete Wedderburn Explains The Impact Lockdown Is Having On Your Pets
Lockdown is driving us all a little bit mad, and the same can be said for our pets.
One of Ireland's leading vets Pete Wedderburn spoke to Dermot & Dave this morning about what life is life for the animals in our life at the moment, as they are now becoming used to having us around the house all the time.
According to Pete, because dogs are pack animals, lots of dogs are loving their owners being home during the lockdown. But, changes are stressful for dogs so while they might love it at the moment, as normality begins to resume and they’ll find the changes really hard.
Cats are very different to dogs but one thing they have in common is that they love routine. While dogs will be delighted to have you home all the time, chances are cats will be very stressed by all the change.

  • How You Can Volunteer To Support Mental Health Services
The last few months have been incredibly tough for everyone but for those who have difficulty with their mental health, this current crisis is putting even more pressure on them.
Mental health charity, Aware, have launched an appeal to recruit 200 additional volunteers to support their vital services across Ireland.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, they have seen an increase in demand for their services both from those who can usually manage their mental health very well but are struggling and from those who have never experienced anxiety or low mood before.
Factors like changes to the way we live, job losses, isolation and health concerns have taken their toll on people all around Ireland, and Aware want to be there to offer a supportive ear.
They are appealing to those aged 25 and older who are empathetic, compassionate and who possess good communication skills to make contact with them to consider volunteering. You will be given full training and ongoing support.
Brid O'Meara from Aware spoke to Dermot and Dave this morning about what you can expect and how you can get involved.
If you need to contact Aware yourself either for support or to volunteer, check their website.

  • Cork Woman Celebrates 100th Birthday With The Help Of Her Town
Celebrating your birthday during lockdown isn't easy, but when you're celebrating a birthday as massive as your 100th, it's time to bring in the big guns.
Over the weekend, Margaret Crowley from Courtmacsherry in West Cork hit a most significant milestone when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Margaret who has 3 children, 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren is cocooning and spending her time baking. She even baked scones last weekend and left them on the windowsill for nearby family to collect!
But, you can't not mark a day as important as this and Margaret's granddaughter Colette came up with a brilliant idea to get the entire town involved.
Because a lot of Margaret's family live outside the 2km zone that we're permitted to travel within, Colette asked those in the local area to drive by Margaret's house to wish her a happy birthday.
Nearly 150 cars turned up decorated in balloons and streamers!
This morning, Colette and Margaret joined Dermot and Dave to chat about how their day was made by the visit and the lads asked Margaret for some top tips to make it to 100. (Spoiler: it's not takeaways and booze!)

Dean also spoke about how he's making sure that the precision kicking that he's known for hasn't been impacted by the lack of game time, and gave his own take on when he'd like to see a return to playing.
