  • Here's How Your Young Star Can Represent Ireland At Junior Eurovision 2020
    Applications are now open
If you've got a little star in your house, this could be the time to make them shine on the world stage.
Adare Productions are looking for talented young singers, who are aged between 9 and 14 years-old, to represent Ireland at an international level .
Applications are open to solos, duets and groups of up to a maximum of 6 people.
To enter all you need is an amazing singing voice, there is no original song necessary. Apply by filling out the form on TG4's website (click here). The closing date for applications is Valentine's Day (February 14th).
The Irish heats will take place this March and the winner will go on to represent Ireland at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Poland .
The winner(s) will travel to Poland eight days in advance to prepare for the event; from the opening ceremony, to rehearsals on the big stage, culminating in the show itself, it is sure to be a whirlwind of excitement and the experience of a lifetime for the lucky youngster(s).
Drawing a record audience of over 11 million viewers across Europe in 2019, the multi-million euro show is something spectacular to be a part of - and every bit as impressive as the adult version.
Here's last year's winner Viki Gabor in action:
Dermot and Dave chat to Micheál Ó Ciaraidh from TG4 & Junior Eurovision Ireland, who explains what they are looking for; "all we need is an application form filled out on the website and a 40 second clip of said person/persons singing and it can be in any language, we just want to hear the vocals".

"What are going to be the biggest changes in our homes by 2020? And what new technology do researchers think we'll be living with?"

  • Check Out HBO's New Comedy Series 'The Righteous Gemstones'
    "Praise be the he"
Comedy fans are in for a treat when HBO's 'The Righteous Gemstones' comes to NOW TV on February 5th.
The new comedy series tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family (the Gemstones) with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work.
John Goodman plays 'Dr Gemstones', with Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals) playing 'Jesse' and Edi Patterson as 'Judy'.
Here's a little taster for ya:
Dermot and Dave's Dave's Moore caught up with both Danny McBride and Edi Patterson to find out how much fun it was to make, with Danny saying; "it's a lot of the same collaborators from Eastbound and Vice Principal so that comedy is very much in the DNA of the show".
Edi continues by explaining how improvisation is always welcomed throughout filming; "we just see what opens up in the moment - the truth is in the moment"
    When asked if they felt using a televangelists lifestyle as the plot for the show was risky, Danny responds with this;
"the point of the show wasn't to lampoon people for their beliefs...it was more about like trying to bite off this character piece about this family that finds themselves in this position and how they exploit it"
And with a season 2 already confirmed, I cannot wait to get my holy hands on it!

  • A Detailed Examination Of Ireland's Health Service Flaws
The former Head of the National Association of GPs offers his solutions for a more streamlined system
With less than three weeks remaining until the General Election takes place, Today FM's Dermot and Dave want to help the people of Ireland cut through the bull and #GetTheFactsStraight ahead of voting.
#DermotAndDave are looking to cut through the #GE2020 noise to #GetTheFactsStraight - starting today from 9am
Talking to experts on the subjects that matter to YOU! Got a question? @ us! @DermotTodayFM @DaveTodayFM pic.twitter.com/otx7zMEZvF
    — Today FM (@TodayFM) January 21, 2020
First up for this no nonsense segment is GP Matt O'Toole, former Head of the National Association of General Practitioners in Ireland.
When asked "Why is the Health Service is so bad?", his response is swift; "the fundamental problem is it's all short-term thinking".
He continues to marvel at the fact that despite Ireland spending "€17bn a year on the Health Service - one of the highest levels per capita in the OECD", the reality is that:
    "we're short 2,500 beds"
"we've half a million people on waiting lists"
"we actually train more doctors per head of capita than any other country in the OECD but we have 500 vacant posts for consultants and we have hundreds of vacant posts for nurse"
Matt states that "we don't need to reinvent the wheel...we just need to replicate what other [successful] countries are doing". It's a no-brainer in his eyes.
The knowledgeable GP then explains what 'Sláinte Care' is about and reveals how some procedures actually cost doctors money to perform.
#GetTheFactsStraight is definitely a useful tool to help guide you on February 8th, so stay tune to Dermot and Dave to hear who next week's expert will be.

    The best of the box
Dermot and Dave producer Maria Devereux is a walking TV guide, who loves telling us what's hot on the telly.
Here's what Maz reckons we should be watching this week:
The 2020 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Tonight (Monday) @9pm on RTÉ Two
Highlights of the ceremony celebrating outstanding film and TV performances during 2019, with Robert De Niro receiving the Life Achievement Award. Plus Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's juicy reunion. Here's a little peak at Brad in action:

Celebrity Ex on the Beach - Tuesday @10pm on MTV
Eight single celebrities meet in a luxury villa. Sparks fly for Joey, Calum walks into a surprise, Lateysha takes a shining to a 'bad boy' and the first celeb ex arrives. Maria's words: "Love Island times a million":

Inside the Crown: Secrets of the Royals - Thursday @9pm on UTV/ITV
Major four-part documentary telling the inside story of the royal family and the Queen's record-breaking reign. The first episode focuses on the conflict between love and duty that faces the royals - and which has occasionally threatened to bring down the House of Windsor. Edward VIII fatefully chose love when he abdicated to marry divorcee Wallis Simpson. Charles chose duty when he married Diana. The Queen, however, has managed to find a balance, maintaining a long marriage while becoming the longest-serving monarch.

    Movie of the Week
    Mrs Doubtfire - Tonight @8:35pm on E4
After Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams), an unemployed actor, loses custody of his three children to his ex-wife (Sally Field), he realizes that seeing his kids once a week just isn’t enough. So the crafty thespian dresses as “Mrs. Doubtfire,” an elderly British nanny with a sharp tongue and an endearing way with children, in order to be close to his kids in this bright, heartwarming comedy.
Ya can't beat a bit of Euphegenia!

  • How To Transform 'Blue Monday' Into The Most Positive Day Of The Year
    Learn to love ALL Mondays
Ok, so we know it's cold out, that there's a severe lack of vitamin D and it feels like we haven't been paid since last century, but January, or Monday's for that matter, are not as bad as you may think.
Speaking on Dermot and Dave's Mind Yourself Now, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist Fiona Brennan explains how 'Blue Monday' is a marketing ploy "tapping into our psychological vulnerability at this time of year".
She continues by saying there is "no scientific evidence to support it" and that "the myth of Blue Monday is the one that really works on the power of suggestion".
Aside from this one specific day of the year, Fiona feels "we've been conditioned to believe Monday is not a good day". So how do we change that?
Our expert guides us through the various steps one can take in order to have a much more positive experience with Mondays, and life in general.
