  • Dermot & Dave's Best Of Podcast - 10/01/2020
This week Dermot & Dave spoke about swingers in Ireland and how to become one, after Diarmuid Gavin kept dropping hints that Dermot Bannon's garden contained pampas grass - which is a sign of being a swinger. Dermot & Dave show producer Eimear revealed all about Megxit, while Sean convinced Dermot to play Come Out Ye Black and Tans as his cracker in Cheese & Crackers. And, Dave had some Bad Jokes, while Noni was live from Thomond Park.

  • Tommy Tiernan Chats About The Art Of Conversation
"The guests come on with a certain type of energy and it's about giving them that space for the energy to express itself"
Comedian, storyteller, philosopher, sociologist - call him what you will - Tommy Tiernan has been bringing joy, laughter and madness into our lives for many years.
Personally, I've always been a huge fan of his work, and the Navan native has transcended into a new level of brilliance via his TV programme, The Tommy Tiernan Show.
Something special has happened with his improvised chat show, a spark that well and truly ignited in the last series and has continued into 2020:
"We need to have more people out there going into the acting business or people into college"
Actor Mark, joined by creative partner Aishling, speaks about inclusion.#TommyTiernanShow pic.twitter.com/lffgI6wGKj
    — RTÉ One (@RTEOne) January 4, 2020
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, Tommy describes the concept as "such a simple idea" but admits that "deciding to be unprepared is either brave or foolhardy".
He continues to explain why he loves how organic it feels saying; "you're just allowing it [the conversation] to happen, all you kinda do is try and survive the moment". And thrive he does.
Tiernan also talks about his 'A Work in Progress" tour (get tickets here) and why he hates writing material for stand up; "I've never developed a sure fire technique to be able to develop stand up, so it always seems like a bit of pressure".
Catch The Tommy Tiernan Show again this Saturday @9:55pm on RTÉ One and you can listen to his chat on Dermot and Dave in full by pressing the play button on screen.

  • The Royal Step Back: How Meghan & Harry Will Become Sussex-ful On Their Own
    #Megxit explained
It's the hashtag that has rocked royalty and us commoners alike.
On Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (that's Meghan and Harry btw) made this announcement on their Instagram page:

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” - The Duke and Duchess of Sussex For more information, please visit sussexroyal.com (link in bio) Image © PA

So now that the regal shackles are cast off, and the doors of a "normal" life are opened, what lies in store for the couple?
We've no doubt they will become very sussex-ful no matter what they go at.

  • Tour De Picnic 2020: Your Last Chance To Get To Electric Picnic
How to nab a golden ticket to the festival of the summer
With tickets for Electric Picnic 2020 selling out in under three hours back in December, lots of revellers are already experiencing early FOMO. If that's you, fear not my friend, as signing up for the Tour De Picnic 2020 17km run or 80km cycle is your final chance to party your socks off in Stradbally this September.
After a hugely successful #thecompletenatural Tour De Picnic 2019, organisers have decided to launch this year’s Tour De Picnic a little earlier than usual with a special reduced registration fee of €60. Registration for this over 18s event will go up to €100 when early bird places are sold out, so don’t miss out!
    *REGISTER BY CLICKING HERE*
This year, participants are required to raise €450 (including registration) or €400 for students, for the Tour De Picnic charities to take part in this exhilarating fundraising and fitness challenge, with their weekend pass to Ireland’s most popular music festival waiting for them at the finish line.
Funds raised by Tour De Picnickers will go towards all three of the following children's charities: LauraLynn – Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, Ronald McDonald House and ISPCC Childline (with one more worthy cause to be announced). Fundraising deadline is June 30th 2020.
So what is in store for Tour De Picnickers this year? The stunning 80km cycle through some of Ireland’s best cycle ways will begin with a breakfast party held at Tallaght Stadium on the morning of September 4th to keep you energised as you push those pedals towards the Picnic.
Departing from Tallaght Stadium, the cyclists will head for the Blessington Greenway to meander through some of Ireland’s biggest dairy farms and the picturesque village of Brannockstown. They’ll then make their way along the Barrow Blueway before reaching Stradbally. There will be plenty of much-needed sustenance along the way too, stopping at The Avon Blessington and Athy GAA.
As for those lacing up their running shoes, their journey starts at Coursetown B&B and Country House, a dairy farm in Athy, Co Kildare. The 17km run covers farmland and Coillte forests; passing through Oughvale Woods is always a stand-out moment for runners as they take in the beautiful Irish countryside.

  • Did You Know That Most Of Us Actually Have A Tiny Mickey?
    Approximately 0.1mm
Dave's World sure is beautifully bizarre place, as Dave Moore proved yet again on this morning's show.
Dave lured us in with this sentence; "Your Mickey is tiny", but his meaning was equally as startling.
Did you know that a "mickey" is a unit of measurement for the speed and movement direction of a computer mouse?
The term was coined by computer scientists, who named it after Mickey Mouse, and is defined as: "the smallest detectable movement of a mouse cursor on a screen."
The length of a mickey changes depending on the equipment being tested, but is generally about 0.1. So now for ya!
And the trivia master also has another fact about decades that will hurt your brain.

  • Tech Expert Explains Why YouTube Are Stopping All Comments On Videos Aimed At Children
"Nobody has ever done anything else really like this before"
In a move to make their platform safer and combat targeted marketing by companies, YouTube have decided to no longer allow comments on videos aimed at children.
To learn more about this revolutionary action, Dermot and Dave chat to Adrian Weckler, Tech Editorfor the Irish and Sunday Independent.
Adrian explains why a €150m fine by US regulators prompted the video-sharing powerhouse to make this decision, and reveals how this will put an end to a very sinister technique used by sexual predators watching teenage clothing reviews; "they were leaving comments with time stamps to see what part of the video they should be looking at".

  • Dermot Loses His Sh*t With A Couple Of Pooper Scooper Scoundrels
Dermot Whelan had an interesting encounter on Lahinch beach over the weekend
There he was, out for a lovely walk with his wife Aisling and dog Buddy, when all of a sudden he spotted another couple whose dog was going for a number 2. But instead of cleaning up after their the pooch, they just kept on strolling.
Having had enough of other people's laziness, he said"enough is enough", and like a man possessed set off to confront the two of them.
Let's just say his act of empowerment didn't go as he had envisaged it in his head.
Listeners then add their poop-scooping stories.

  • Dermot Bannon Reveals The Secrets Behind His Most Ambitious Project To Date

Dermot Bannon returned to our screens on Sunday night with the first episode of his highly anticipated two-part show Room to Improve: Dermot's Home - and it did not disappoint!
For a man who is usually so "on it", the window-loving designer shocked viewers with his indecisiveness and  miscalculation of the budget by half:

Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, Bannon reveals his budget to be a bit of a white lie; "the figure of €350,000 was a little bit of a sales pitch to my wife".
But he does admit that his uncertainties were very real, saying; "I had to find out what I liked and I did that in the middle of the programme":
