  • Helpful Tips On How To Demystify "Screen Time" For Your Child
Parents also need to learn how to control their own digital habits and behaviours
Christmas may be over, but the truth is that most of us are still a bit all over the place after the festivities - especially children.
It's hard to expect youngsters to go cold turkey (excuse the pun) on their devices after being given more time on them over the past couple of weeks - so a plan of action is needed.
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, Digital Wellness Consultant Carrie Budds has some very useful tips and resources that can help parents with this issue.
Carrie recommends parents set boundaries well in advance of holidays whilst also keeping up to date with the apps their children are using.
we're at a stage now where the young generation are teaching the older generation, which is a really unusual scenario
She also feels it is important for adults to explain to their kids why they are monitoring the devices; as it's for their safety - and that parents should practice what they preach.
Here are some of the resources Carrie shared on her Instagram:

Some useful resources for helping demystify screen time, gaming and on-device habits for your kids. Tech isn't bad in and if itself, lots of kids can benefit from it. They just need support in helping them to figure out how to use it the right way #backtoschool #screentime #digitalparenting

  • Gervais Roasts Hollywood In His Golden Globe Opening Monologue
"So let's go out with a bang - let's have a laugh at your expense, shall we?"
Sunday night's 77th Golden Globe Award ceremony in Beverly Hills was Ricky Gervais' 5th time hosting the prestigious event, and just like the other four occasions, he didn't hold back.
The comedian gave it to Tinseltown right between the eyes:
Here it is in all its glory - @rickygervais #GoldenGlobes opening monologue.
Make sure you take 7:50 out of your day to watch this. #DermotAndDave @DermotTodayFM @DaveTodayFM https://t.co/BErNVatFmH
    — Today FM (@TodayFM) January 6, 2020
The important thing to take from that 8 minutes or so of roasting is this following quotation:
Remember, they're just jokes. We're all gonna die soon and there's no sequel so yeah...remember that
    Ricky...you're some boy!!

More dancing, but this time it's a little bit trickier. 12 new celebs take on the ice rink again this year, with a nice bit of Irish interest in the form of Kevin Kilbane and Maura Higgins. • Fortune-Teller Uses Asparagus To Predict What Will Happen In 2020
Jemima Packington is the only asparamancer in the world
OK, so I've heard of mystics gazing into crystal balls, reading tarot cards and deciphering tea leaves in China cups as methods of predicting what will happen in the future, but flinging asparagus about the place is a new one to me!
Jemima describes herself as "the world's only asparamancer", which is a person who casts asparagus spears on a flat surface to reveal what is in store by the patterns they make.
Dermot and Dave caught up with the English spaewife to get a glimpse of what is to come in 2020.
The 64-year-old oracle claims we will be shocked some high-profile sport star scandals, that Brexit and veganism will plateau and that we can expect more royal babies.

  • Check Out The New Irish E-Safety App That Could Save Your Child's Life
'ME' is a safety-first social networking app that connects people in a meaningful way with the people who care about them most
With Cyberbullying and social media usage become more of a concern for parents worldwide, ME was conceived by Clare man Robin Grace, with the intention of making the internet a safer, more enjoyable environment for all.
The platform provides easy to understand e-safety tech literacy education in the form of illustrations, moving image and a mixture of education tools that will allow the user to identify what's dangerous or risky to them.
Robin has set-up a Kickstarter page to help fund his app, *which is only at demo stage*. He needs to raise €75,000 to make 'ME' happen, so you if it sounds like something you would like to support, you can donate by clicking here.
ME will be free to download
ME will have no subscription of any kind
    And
ME will have no advertising of any kind. EVER!
    4-Step Strategy
Once the user engages with the education they will have the choice in how they want to respond:
Step 1 - recognize the dangers through age appropriate education.
Step 2 - Take a break when and if you need to.
Step 3 - Connect with someone in your support network.
Step 4 - Build your confidence and resilience by engaging with a pro-social (eg sporting/outdoor activity).
These steps can be applied to any dangerous or risky scenario that a young person may encounter as a positive response, and if the person needs to seek further assistance or advice ME will provide links to professional support services in their locality.
Robin chats to Dermot and Dave's Dermot Whelan about his journey from child abuse to joining the Gardaí, which led him to create the app; "I'm bringing my personal and professional experiences to this".

Well, tomorrow night, one man will do just that. His name is Santa and he'll be bringing joy to billions in a matter of hours.
    via GIPHY

Barry Fitzgerald is a scientist who has explored a whole manner of things from 'How to Build an Ironman Suit' to the science of superheroes.
So safe to say, he knows his stuff.
This morning, he joined Dermot and Dave to reveal the secret science of Santa Claus and it's every bit as incredible as you might imagine.
