  • The Heart-warming Story Of A 4-Year-Old "Warrior" Beating Leukemia
"We've learned so much about him and from him"
Back in May of 2016, 13-month-old Cian Wensley was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) after his parents noticed a rash on his body.
When the "angry-looking rash" developed a little more, they brought him to the doctor and within a couple of hours he was being tested in Crumlin Hospital. That's how quickly things escalated.
Life is so precious and it can change in an instant
Cian's mum Belinda chats to Dermot and Dave about the family's journey so far, reveals how much of a "warrior" her little man has been throughout and has nothing but love and respect for the staff of Crumlin Hospital.
She brought a smile to all our faces when she told us the news that "in the last week and a half, Cian has just finished his treatment for ALL".
Her 4-year-old cutie came on for a quick chat too and had us like:
The Galway family also got a nice treat from the show to celebrate the "all clear" and it's well deserved.

Looking forward to chatting to @dermottodayfm @davetodayfm on @todayfm next monday at 10.30am about our rowing expedition & much more about the power of the human mind and finding time & space in ur own minds & lives.
A post shared by Gerry Hussey (@gerry_hussey) on Aug 16, 2019 at 6:11am PDT
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, Gerry shocked us by saying "nine and a half weeks ago I had never sat in a rowing boat in my life" - and all that Dermot could do was burst out laughing.
This journey of self-discovery has taught him many new things about himself and adds to his "he who has the why has the how" ethos.
The performance coach also chats about the team of novices who are joining him on the adventure and tells us why we must all fit as much into our "900 months" as we can.
Gerry returns as a speaker to this year's Soul Space - The Experience in Claregalway Castle on September 15th and has offered a 10% discount code soulspace10
Soul Space - The Experience is a powerful, immersive one day event that delivers a synergy of remarkable workshops held by leading minds in mental, physical, spiritual and human performance. You will be brought on a Journey of Soul Growth to Nourish, Awaken, Inspire and Heal (and was co-founded by Gerry).

  • 'The Haunting of House Hill' Season 2 Will Be "Unbelievably Scary"
Are you ready for The Haunting of Bly Manor?
I'm going to hold my hand up straight away and admit that I haven't yet watched any of The Haunting of House Hill. I just haven't gotten around to it. I'm not scared or anything *whimpers
But anybody I know who has watched it has assured me that it's the most chilling show you will ever see. And I don't mean a relaxing kinda chill!
    Have a look for yourself:
Season 2 is is a brand new story with new characters and is based on the works of one of the greatest novelists in the English language, Henry James, who's ghost novella The Turning of the Screw is the inspiration for the new title The Haunting of Bly Manor.
James was renowned for his "ability to create an intimate sense of confusion and suspense within the reader" - this added to producer Mike Flanagan's (who was behind season 1) vision means I'm gonna need a defibrillator when it comes out.
Flanagan has confirmed it will be "unbelievably scary" and Netflix have given the release date to be sometime in 2020, with no specific date revealed.
Today FM's Maria's Telly takes a look at the spooky series and has news of another show returning to our screens tonight - MTV Cribs UK.
After a 10-year break the cult show is back on MTV @8pm (starts Monday, August 19th) and this time it's completely British.
Eight episodes, each lasting a total of 30 minutes with tonight's double episode featuring Joey Essex and Charlotte Dawson.

  • Gavin James: "I was absolutely twisted on stage at Electric Picnic for the first time"
And now he headlines the 2019 Today FM Sound Garden
It's impossible not to love Gavin James. He's great craic, warm, cuddly, has the voice of an angel (sooooo soothing) and songs that are simply beautiful.
Today, Gav announced that he is the Friday headliner for the Today FM Sound Garden at Electric Picnic, and we cannot wait to see him do his thang.
Baz Ashmawy (who's covering on Dermot and Dave) was buzzing to have the red-haired songsmith in studio to reveal the news.
Gav treated us to a couple of live performances, where he sang Only Ticket Home and his new one Faces, and admits to having a few too many at his first EP, "I was absolutely twisted on stage at Electric Picnic for the first time". God bless the cans!

  • Eimear's Telly - What To Watch This Weekend
Plenty to keep you happy here
Ok, so after the full moon knocking the stuffing out of most of us during the week (wrecked out of it), we all need to kick back this weekend and chill in front on the telly.
Dermot and Dave's Eimear Shannon has done some snooping and these are her top picks:
    Selma - 9:35pm on RTÉ 1 (Friday)
A chronicle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965.

Woodstock - Three Days That Defined a Generation (undefined) - 10pm on BBC Four (Friday)
Memories of August 1969, when 400,000 people first attended the concert in upstate New York.

    A Simple Favor (Netflix)
Stephanie is a single mother with a parenting vlog who befriends Emily, a secretive upper-class woman who has a child at the same elementary school. When Emily goes missing, Stephanie takes it upon herself to investigate.

    Beautiful Boy (Amazon Prime)
Starring Steve Carell and Golden Globe nominee Timothée Chalamet, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years. Based on the best-selling memoirs from David and Nic Sheff.

    The Family (Netflix)

  • Cody & Sheedy Have Their Say On The All-Ireland Hurling Final
    The Liam McCarthy Awaits
This Sunday sees Kilkenny and Tipperary go head-to-head for the 19th time in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling final, in what is poised to be a belter.
It's not the season-ender majority of fans had envisaged, but who doesn't love the a battle of the underdogs?
Tipp go into the game as slight favourites but as we all know by now, you can never write off the Cats.
Dermot and Dave reporter Seán Reidy (a proud Clare man) takes a look ahead with the help of some insight from Brian Cody, Liam Sheedy, Shane McGrath and Jackie Tyrrell.

  • Cillian Murphy's Look-alike Chats About Life In The Limelight
"It's just a strange, strange thing to happen"
Scott Blower is the gardener from Manchester who has gone viral over the past week due to his uncanny resemblance to Irish actor Cillian Murphy - well his Peaky Blinders character 'Tommy Shelby' moreso.

    (picture via Scott's instagram page)
In fact, his life has changed a lot since the Birmingham-based show first aired back in 2013.
Not knowing much about the crime drama series, or the Cork actor for that matter, Blower wondered why he would get the same name shouted out at him on a regular basis.
It wasn't until he binged on a few episodes that the penny dropped.
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, the 47-year-old says "I started watching it and then I thought 'Oh my days, I actually look like that guy'".
Blower now works as Cillian's look-alike in a 1920's Peaky Blinders-themed bar in Manchester on a Saturday night and is loving life.
When asked if he has any Irish ancestry, Scott reveals that his granny was from Cork. She was actually from Douglas in Cork, which is Cillian's hometown. Just saying.
The doppelganger then chats about how some bar-goers still refuse to believe he's not the real deal, but he does admit it's more of a "side profile" similarity.

Those high, defined cheekbones, devilishly good looks and deep, piercing blue eyes...we're picking up what he's putting down!
With the 5th series just over a week away (it premieres on Sunday, August 25th, on BBC One) we've a feeling he's not going to be pushing around that lawnmower too much over the next while.

  • "The Bug Doctor" Explains Why Creepie-Crawlies Are Becoming More Common In Ireland
    A real life Spider-Man
From the multiple false widow spider sightings in the space of a month (one where a Waterford woman was hospitalised) to a giant moth in Cork last week, what's going on at all? Where are these creatures popping out of?
Michel Dugon is the Zoology Lecturer at Ryan Institute, NUI Galway and with a nickname like 'The Bug Doctor', we knew he was the right man to ask.
Baz Ashmawy, who's filling in on Dermot and Dave, chats to the insect specialist about these infestations and learns some lesser-known facts about the life of a wasp.

  • It's Official: Daydreaming Boosts Creativity!
    But it must be 'focused'
Did you know that on average, a person spends 47% of their waking time daydreaming?
So imagine if we could harness this stream of consciousness to become much more creative?
Well Chris Griffiths, the bestselling author of The Creative Thinking Handbook, knows all about unlocking the mind and helping people excel outside that elusive box.
Chris chats to Baz Ashmawy, who's covering on Dermot and Dave, about how "the most powerful thinking skill we have is using our imagination" and how we can use our daily commute to maximise productivity.
He feels we are "allowing external influences (smartphones, tablets, laptops etc.) to control what you do" during 'free time', whereas we should be focusing on the power of "focus daydreaming".
It's all part of his 'Big Picture Thinking' approach, where he believes we should have "as many dots to join as possible" in order to remove "the box".

  • Dublin Dad Invents Ingenious Way To Bond With His Teenage Son
    'You Win'
For most parents, connecting with their teenager has always been a real struggle, and now, in 2019, with the likes of smartphones, tablets and social media, it has become even more difficult.
Well one man who wanted to nip the division between him and his son at the bud is Dubliner Aidan Deering.
When Seán (his son) was 13, Aidan was struggling to build a relationship with him due to the aforementioned obstacles and the obvious surge of hormones as a teen. So he asked himself, "How can I touch base with him?".
I didn't want him to be 15/16 and not talking to me
Being the avid old-school gamer he is, he one day had an epiphany to make a retro arcade machine that he and his son could play together. And it worked. Genius!
But it did take over 8 months (about 1500 hours) he reckons, as it is built from scratch.
Baz Ashmawy, who's filling in on Dermot and Dave, chats to the resourceful dad about his brainchild and how he turned it into a full-time business.
Aidan says, "we played Mortal Kombat for the first time and we had a connection straight away. After a couple of weeks the relationship changed".
This then led to his company www.miniarcaderentals.com (where you can buy these incredible machines), which has had some pretty big celebrity interest. Like 'The Notorious' himself:
