  • Should The US Vice President Be Allowed Visit Ireland?
    Mike Pence comes next month
The American Vice Presidency is one of the most powerful political roles in the world, however, the current holder of that office, Mike Pence, is quite a colourful character.
But for someone so colourful, he's not a fan of the rainbow flag and what it stands for.
Renowned for his controversial views on the LGBT community and Women's right, should Ireland be welcoming him with open arms on September 6th?
Today FM News' Andrew Lowth gives Baz Ashmawy (who's covering on Dermot and Dave) his two Pence on what the 60-year-old Republican stands for and explores some of his controversial statements.
His actions sure do speak louder than words.

  • Tinder's 'Most Swiped-Right Man' Reveals How To Create The Perfect Profile
Introducing the 'Gok Wan of dating'
Stefan-Pierre Tomlin is man of many talents - he's a model, TV presenter, pilot and has one of the most impressive titles in modern times, 'Tinder's Most Swiped-Right Man' (or 'Mr. Tinder' for short).

The London dreamboat also has his own clothing and accessory range and boasts an impressive 170k followers on Instagram. Jealous? Me?? Don't be daft!
Bar being fit as fook, what makes the 29-year-old so swipeable?
Baz Ashmawy caught up with the lush Londoner on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, to learn his secrets and help other Tinder users maximize their success-rate on the app.
Describing himself as "the Gok Wan of dating", Tomlin's got some top tips:
    The dos
Use a nice, clear, "poppy" picture for your profile
Keep your bio short and snappy. He says, "Less is more 100%" & that "jokes work"
Use "scenario" snaps that reveal your interests and who you are
    The don'ts
Don't have members of the opposite sex (to you) in your profiler "that doesn't come across well"
Drop the pets from your profiler too, "it doesn't quite get across the right message"
If you ever wondered what day of the week is best to find yourself a match - it's Sunday. Stefan-Pierre is very specific saying that 2pm on Sunday is the peak time. A nice way to chill after praying for a lover, at mass, I suppose.
And when it comes to choosing potential partners, just remember this line from his profile, "No Likey No Righty". He owes Paddy McGuinness a few quid for that one I think.

  • Jason Byrne Chats Leaving Cert Results: "There's People Even My Age Changing Careers Now"
    Career guidance at its best
For the best part of 30 years, Jason Byrne has been making the people of the world laugh, but comedy wasn't always his dream job.
Speaking on Dermot and Dave, Jayo says "I was barely 17 when I left school", which resulted in him being just as confused as anyone as to what he would do in the future.
Joking about the "7 A'S" and "clown college", the 47-year-old reveals how his career guidance teacher suggested he should become a mechanic. This would have been fine bar the fact he had "never seen the inside of an engine".
Having tried a couple of "regular jobs", Byrne did some "open spots" and things kinda picked up from there, "I was getting more money than a doctor was per hour" he laughs. So maybe missing out on third-level isn't so bad afterall?
Jason has since diversified himself in adding 'author' and 'judge' to his titles, proving that one can adapt and evolve over time to help reinvent themselves.
The Dubliner is currently performing at his 23rd Edinburgh Fringe Festival and plays the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway in October.

  • 'DIY SOS Ireland: The Big Build' Are Searching For Families To Take Part In Their Life-Changing Show
    This is BIG!
Most of us are familiar with the massively successful BBC series DIY SOS: The Big Build, and now, for the first time, the famous home improvement show is coming to Ireland.
This is the first time it has ever been produced outside of the UK and producers are looking for "deserving families across the country struggling to cope with a devastating illness or life changing event, who desperately need help to rebuild their homes & hopefully transform their lives in the process".
The feel-good show is being produced by Motive Television for RTÉ (One) and will be fronted by the man who knows a thing or two about helping people out - the ultimate wingman himself, Baz Ashmawy.
Baz and his DIY SOS team of experts will help 4 families from across the country transform their homes, changing their lives forever.
The thing is, they will only have 9 days to complete each project and rely on tradesmen and neighbours doing work for free. So they are going to need all the humanpower they can get. That's where you come in.
Series Producer, Sharon Newman chats to Baz (who's covering on Dermot and Dave) about the criteria potential families need to meet and explains how "this does not work unless the community get behind it".
This is like a tsunami of goodwill
If you know someone who needs a helping hand in tough times, you can download a Word Document of the form here.
Please email forms to [email protected]
Sharon also reveals the first family they have chosen, the Barrys, who's young father sadly passed away earlier this year. It's heartbreaking and hammers home just how important these projects are.

  • Season 2 Of 'Succession' Premieres Tonight
    The Roys are back!
Tonight sees the return of the critically-acclaimed and BAFTA-winning comedy-drama Succession. And if you missed the first series, you really need to catch up.
'Beginning where season one dramatically left off, season two of this series follows the members of the Roy family as they struggle to retain control of their empire, and while the future looks increasingly uncertain, it is the past that threatens to ultimately destroy them.'
Have a sneak peak of what to expect:
Succession season 2, Episode 1 - Sky Atlantic @9pm (Monday, August 12th). Also available on NOW TV.
Maria's Telly (Dermot and Dave's human TV guide) also takes a look at a new Channel 4 series, Born Famous, where the offspring of some well-known celebrities explore what their lives could be like if their parents didn't become famous.
Tonight @10pm on Channel 4, Mel B's daughter Phoenix Chi retraces her mum's steps in Leeds, before she spiced up her life.
And in the latest episode of Who Do You Think You Are? Kate Winslet discovers slavery in her Swedish roots (Tonight @9pm on BBC 1 @9pm).

  • Patrick Warburton Describes This Irish Location As "My Idea Of Heaven"
"Paddy" sure knows how to paint a picture
Patrick Warburton has one of the most recognised voices in the world with over 150 movie and TV credits to his name.
He's best known for his roles as "Puddy" in the NBC hot comedy 'Seinfeld', Jeff Bingham on 'Rules of Engagement', Krunk from the 'The Emperor’s New Groove', Buzz Lightyear in 'Buzz Lightyear of Star Command', the paraplegic and overzealous cop, "Joe Swanson," on the hit comedy 'Family Guy' and my personal favourite, "Tick" from FOX's short-lived series 'The Tick'.
And with the all-American actor hitting our shores to attend the Dublin Comic Con 2019 (Saturday, August 10th - Sunday, August 11th), we asked him into Today FM Headquarters for a catch-up.
Baz Ashmawy, who's filling on Dermot and Dave, was very giddy to have one of his "huge man crushes" in studio. He's so smitten, he even tries to invite the big man on a subtle GAA date.
Warburton tells us about how he landed the part of "Puddy" in the aforementioned 'Seinfeld', and reveals how it "it was just supposed to be one episode".
Here's a little something to help jog your memory:
The lads then move on to the topic of family, which leads to Patrick regaling us with the story of a magical trip Ireland, "my wife and I and our 4 kids walked to the Giant's Causeway and we were the only 6 people there for about and hour. There was not another soul, and there was a giant rainbow...it was the most special time as the family together. My idea of heaven".
I still cannot get over how booming his voice is. They say his snoring triggers richter scales, so if you feel any trembles this weekend - now you know why.

  • Could Nancy Ashmawy Be Getting Her Own Chat Show?
    Watch out Graham Norton
Nancy Ashmawy became a household name back in 2014 after the explosion of the Emmy-Award-winning show 50 Ways To kill your Mammy.
Baz's brainchild was the most watched TV show on Sky One in Ireland that year. Not too shabby ehh!?
With Nancy's son filling in on Dermot and Dave, the #AskMeAnything guest was an easy choice.
There was only ever one person we wanted in the hot seat for #AskMeAnything with @bazashmawy this week
His mammy!! Listen live here: https://t.co/c2ncX9YcHH pic.twitter.com/IysQsqyf06
    — Today FM (@TodayFM) August 9, 2019
Nancy answered all our listener's questions (she's extremely honest) and melted our hearts with what she had to say about her beloved Baz. Though she does admit to wanting to kill him a few times.
The biggest surprise came when 'Alison in Wicklow' asked if she would ever do another type of show? Maybe a chat show?
And Nancy didn't shy away from the idea.
We can see it now - 'Nancy Natters' or what about 'Mum's The Word'?

  • The 2 Johnnies Drop Their New Single 'Sinéad'
"This may or or may not be about a girl I went to school with"
Tipperary messers Johnny B and Johnny Smacks, better known as 'The 2 Johnnies', have just "dropped" (as the coolers would say) a new single called Sinéad.
In fairness, it's a tough task to follow up from the likes of The Coppers Song, The Silage Song and When I Play For The County, but this just might be their best one to date.
Here - give your ears a little treat:
Baz Ashmawy, who's filling in on Dermot and Dave, chats to the lads about the idea behind the song they describe as "totally natural and totally us" and asks them how they are finding life in the limelight.
Over the past couple of years, they've gone from strength to strength with thanks to their aforementioned tunes, their stand-up gigs and of course, the hugely popular The 2 Johnnies Podcast.
Nathan Carter was their latest victim, ehm...I mean guest, and they fell in love with him instantly, as Baz found out. Talk about a man crush!

  • Richie Kiely On His Fight Against 'MVP': "I Really Am Gonna Shock The World With This One"
'Rocky-esque' is the only way to describe it
On September 27th, Tallaght native Richard Kiely is taking part in the biggest MMA fight of his career; a challenge he feels is "gonna shock the world".
Richie, who fights out of SBG, will be up against England's Michael "Venom" Page (or 'MVP' as he's known) at the Bellator Dublin Main Event in the 3Arena.
"But why is this such a big deal?", I sense you ask. Well MVP is one of the top names in global MMA right now, whereas Richie is only relatively new to the cage. His professional record stands as 3-1-0.
But Kiely has battled hard to get this fight, both on and off the canvas, and if this Stare Down is anything to go by, spectators are in for a juggernaut:
Speaking on Today FM's Dermot and Dave, the Dubliner chats about his journey from former World Kickboxing Champion to a where he's at today, "I decided 3 years ago that I wanted to be an MMA fighter...I wanted to test myself".
Richie also explains why his 6-year-old son Derry is his main inspiration to be the best.
We hope you give him hell Richie!
