Growing up in a religious household, Steve Disselhorst had trouble accepting that he was gay and believed he would lose the dreams he had for himself; especially having children. Through facing the adversity he encountered in his life, he came to believe that the only way to live his best life was to live his most true life and this fed a determination to have those things he most longed for; marriage and family.
