Aaron and Glenys talk to Queer Fat Femme Bevin of Fat Kid Dance Party about how she's helping people heal from body oppression through fun and accessible dance classes. A childhood of bullying because of her weight kept her off the dance floor until she found body liberation activism, the idea that all bodies are worthy of love no matter what. She has been reclaiming dance floors along with teaching, performing and writing about body liberation for over fifteen years. She is an AFAA certified group exercise instructor and developed Fat Kid Dance Party (For All Sizes to Heal from Body Oppression) to help other folks learn to love their bodies, embrace their awkwardness and open up to self care!

Aaron and Glenys talk to Cori Rosenthal, a mindfulness-based marriage and family therapist, meditation and mindful eating teacher about introducing mindfulness and self-compassion in your self-care routine. Cori shares with us her experience of dieting since childhood and the critical inner voice she finally came to recognize after practicing mindfulness. She explains the neurobiology of our brains on mindfulness and how it can truly change the way our brains function in a positive way that enhances health and self-cre. We also talk about our current culture of tough love and how it doesn't support positive self-care, and what we can do about it (spoiler alert: it's all about mindful self-compassion). This episode will give you some great new tools to add to your self-care tool-box that you can start using today, with only a minute of time.

Aaron and Glenys dive deep in to a discussion on non-diet, HAES-based care for diabetes with Megrette Fletcher, MEd, RD, CDE. Megrette is a certified diabetes educator who provides non-weight-focused education for people with diabetes and pre-diabetes, and teaches other professionals how to provide this care as well. Founder of the Center for Mindful Eating, Megrette advocates for pleasurable, mindful eating and shame reduction to help manage blood sugars instead of restriction and weight loss. In this episode, she gives us a handy metaphor for understanding how our insulin works and how we can best help our own bodies utilize its insulin. For those who have been scared by or felt shame for a diagnosis or family history of diabetes, we think you'll find this episode extremely helpful in helping you get your self-compassionate self-care on.

Aaron and Glenys discuss how this can be a difficult topic to broach with clients, but how it is essential to the work of making peace with food. Both share their experiences in talking about body image and weight stigma with clients and how it helps to move the work of finding peace with food forward. We all have an inner critic. Sometimes this little voice can be really helpful in keeping us safe...but sometimes it can hold us back or send us damaging and unhelpful thoughts. Aaron and Glenys talk about their own inner critics, how they manifest, and how they deal with them. This is a truly unplugged (and sometimes unhinged!) discussion that we're sure you'll enjoy and hopefully will give you a few more tools for your self-care toolbox.

Glenys and Aaron were thrilled to have a chance to talk to Dr. Anita Johnston, author of the book Eating in the Light of the Moon. This book is an amazing resource for those struggling with eating difficulties of all kinds. Our interview focused on how Dr. Johnston was first exposed to metaphor as a way of healing, and how this can be a source for a deeper understanding of our behaviors. She also takes a deep dive into the discussing the popular "log metaphor" from her book and why it resonates with so many clients.
