  • #71 MORE LEADVILLE 100 FINISHES THAN ANY OTHER WOMAN with Marge Hickman
Marge Hickman has finished the Leadville 100 more times than any other woman. Her first ultramarathon was the Leadville 100 in 1984, when she was 34 years old. In 1985, she won the race. This year, she’s aiming to be the oldest woman to finish! You may think you know the history of the race but Marge was there and she knows the REAL history. She even authored a book on the subject. Don’t miss out on this podcast. She has a rich history in not only Leadville but the sport of ultramarathon altogether. Marge may be 71 years old but she’s not slowing down any time soon. She still has BIG goals. This was one of my favorite conversations and I know you guys are going to love it as well.

  • #70 JAM ON TAM 200 with Michael Li
Thanks for tuning in to another installment of the DO BIG THINGS podcast.  My guest today, Michael Li, just ran 200 miles with 55,000 vertical feet thrown in there for kicks.  I really enjoyed our conversation.  He is someone who used to be overweight and sedentary and then he caught that ultra bug.  I think you guys are going to find a lot of inspiration here.  Please give it a listen and show Michael some love.

  • #69 The Path to the Seven Summits with Paul Devaney
Welcome, to the DO BIG THINGS podcast episode #69! I’m guessing there is a joke there somewhere but I digress. It is March 23 and I am coming to you from Boulder, Colorado. I’ve got a fantastic guest for you guys this week, Mr. Paul Devaney is a big mountain climber. By big mountain, I mean he is a 7 summit hopeful. He’s done 6 of the 7, leaving the best for last. Mount Everest. He’s had some attempts out there and on paper, he should have been able to complete it by now. He’s got the knowledge, he’s got the proper training, he’s put the time and dedication into it. However, his latest Everest attempt was in 2015 when there was a catastrophic avalanche up there that claimed the lives of 19 people. He was a part of the disaster as well as everything that goes along with the aftermath of something like that. His story is incredible. He’s done lots of other podcasts and Ted Talks on the subject and if you look at his website, Irishsevensummits.com, you can find all kinds of links about it and video that was actually taken during the disaster. I highly recommend you checking it out and listening to this man’s story. It was an honor to have him on the show and it was an honor to have my man Mr. John Danese as a co-host for this one. You can hear my conversations with John on episodes 20 and 34. I’m excited for this conversation because it’s real and intense. And I love real and intense. I think you guys are going to dig it as well.

  • #68 CREATING MEMORIES with Gemini Adventures
Thank you to the DO BIG THINGS tribe!  I’ve got a couple of really cool guests for you for episode #68. Kyla Claudell and Reid Delman are the race directors for Gemini Adventures here in Colorado. I was anxious to sit down and get to know them a little more, as BIG THINGS CREWING is going to be teaming up and working with them this year. They are humble, low key (yet bada$$) race directors who have some excellent ultramarathons and adventure races throughout the year and they are trying to stay away from the corporate vibe that a lot of races are slowly adapting towards. I was really impressed with them, their ethics and what they stand for and I’m happy to now call them friends.

  • #67 With My Friend and Artist, Jon Bass
I’ve got a fantastic guest for you today. Jon Bass is a guy that I go back with almost 30 years. I’ve known him forever. I used to party with him back in the day and he is an artist in every sense of the word. He does beautiful, psychedelic tattoo work and you can find him on the Gram @jonbass1. If you like artwork or are into tattoos, do yourself a favor and stop what you’re doing and look at his Instagram and get ready to have your wig pushed back. The best tattoos I have are from his hand. He and I have been through a ton of stuff over the years and as soon as we set this up, I was looking forward to it. Jon and I always have some good laughs and reminisce about the old days. Jon could have easily been a comedian and every time I hang out with him, my cheeks hurt afterwards from laughing so hard. I hope you guys enjoy it.

  • #66 SURVIVING NO PULSE FOR 40 MINUTES with Erik Sanders
Thank you for dropping in!  I’ve got a great guest for you today, with an incredible story. He’s a super stud adventure athlete that gets outside all the time and is super fit and healthy. I guess that’s what makes his story so incredibly mind blowing. On January 6th of this year, he entered an easy little ski mountaineering race. At least it was easy by his standards. He jumped into the race, last minute and ten minutes into the race, he had a cardiac arrest. Erik Sanders was without a pulse for 40 minutes before he was brought back to life. He is now working his way back to some semblance of normalcy and getting out for regular walks and runs. He’s still working through the emotions and trauma that comes with something like this and I’m sure you can hear it in his voice during our conversation. Erik is a super cool, humble guy and I’m so glad he’s alright and here to tell his story. It’s an inspiring one and I think this one is going to get you right in the feelers.

  • #65 From Broken to Breaking with Michael McKnight
Thank you for tuning in.  This podcast is 1 year old today!  I have a great guest lined up for you. Michael McKnight is an ultrarunner and an elite one at that. He has won the triple crown of 200 milers twice. He is really into the low carb, high fat diet and it’s an extremely effective strategy he employs towards his ultramarathons. I had a lot of questions about his diet and how and why he got into it. He holds the fastest known time on the Colorado Trail which he just set in 2020. He ran 100 miles with no food whatsoever in 2020. He ran 4400 miles in 2020. All of these feats are mind-blowing on their own.  They are all a testament to his diet and his dedication to his craft which I really admire and wanted to hear more about.  I know you guys are going to love this conversation.

  • #63 Every Step is a Gift with Josh Lasky
Thank you for dropping in!  My guest today is an ultra-endurance athlete, a caregiver, an author and so much more. He found endurance sports while looking for a healthy outlet when he was taking care of his sick father. Most people don’t set out to be a caregiver but lots of folks find themselves in the position of helping out a sick loved one at some point in their lives. Josh Lasky gave of himself for years and he emerged with a published memoir in his hands. He wrote a beautiful book called Every Step is a Gift which you can find on Amazon but better yet, you can get a signed copy from him at joshlasky.com. The subtitle to his book is Caregiving, Endurance, and the Path to Gratitude. I really enjoyed this conversation. Please check out his book, Every Step is a Gift. Here’s me, talking to Josh Lasky.

  • #62 Dial in Your Nutrition with Will Benitez
My guest today is a nutritionist as well as an ultrarunner. I couldn’t wait to talk with him because I had a lot of questions.  Will Benitez is an open minded nutritionist and knows that everyone isn’t the same.  No cookie cutter nutrition plans here. Plus, he coaches a lot of really high end athletes and ultrarunners. I learned a lot while talking to him and I’m happy to announce, Will and On Pace Wellness are going to be supporting the podcast. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to him if you are struggling with your diet or even if it’s already good but you want to get to that next level with your fitness.
