Doopy Brothers Podcast

We didn't expect much when we stayed up til 11 to watch the Union play against arguable the best team in the league, but we still did it anyway. And, boy, did the Union make it worth it. Golazo after golazo, the 3-3 tie with LAFC created one of the most thrilling and memorable games we've ever seen the Union play. Jakob Glesnes stole the show with an impossible rip from about 40 yards out and nearly all Union players produced high quality performances. We also get into some concerns we had, the US Olympic roster and how it affects the home opener, as well as predictions for the game against San Jose.

In the first of a new series of podcasts exploring soccer in Chester, we chatted with founder and recent Swarthmore grad Omri Gal, Philadelphia Union midfielder and mentor Warren Creavalle and students in the after school design program at Stetser Elementary School in Chester called Design FC.

Special thanks to all of the students, program and school staff who helped with this episode and Union PA announcer Kevin Casey for providing a sound bite introducing Warren Creavalle.

Programming Note: Since the recording of this podcast, Brendan Grady took a head coaching job at Juniata College and stepped down as Chester Upland Youth Soccer executive director. Jeannine Fallon Anckaitis was named the new executive director.

A disappointing start to the season, the Union fell to FC Dallas 2-0 in Frisco. While showing glimpses of quality, it was a "rusty" performance by the boys in blue. We discuss our takeaways as well as who we thought did/didn't do well in our Union Best Union Worst segment and go through some "hot takes" that might have stemmed from the game and if any are valid.

In the second half, we discuss the implications of Bedoya's lack of DP tag and start some probably meaningless speculation. With LAFC next on the schedule, we preview that match up with predictions from a "celebrity" to compete with our own. Plus we create our own 5v5 rosters using LAFC owner Will Ferrell's characters only.

It's officially an MLS match week and we couldn't be more excited. We got our boss and brotherlygame.com Managing Editor, Matt Ralph to get everyone prepared for the 2020 season and Week 1 against FC Dallas. Matt has an extensive knowledge of the Union and MLS and shared his insights on the team going into this season.

In the second half we got to talk to Tutul and Neetol Rahman, the brothers who created the amazing podcast, 25 Stories That Made MLS. Their podcast shares the biggest stories and events that led to what MLS is today and most recently shared an episode about the homegrown rule and academy systems. The Union, being one of the top in this category, got discussed by them so we felt like it was a great opportunity to have them on and discuss their work. They were a lot of fun to talk to and made one thing clear; brothers make the best podcasts.

We got a new stadium.... name! Talen Energy Stadium is now Subaru Park as the Union partner with the Japanese car company. With that being the only real substantial Union news since our last recording, we jump into some discussions on what players will be the most important to Union success this year and it gets... heated kind of? It divulged into some classic brotherly banter but brought up some points on who might bring the Union success in 2020.

Ivy League doctoral student and pro soccer player is a combination you’d probably be hard pressed to find in the modern game, but Ian Hennessy had his feet both in professional soccer and in a laboratory at Columbia University when Major League Soccer kicked off its inaugural season in 1996.

He's since made a career in the game and continues to impact the growth in the greater Philadelphia area as the head coach at Delaware men's soccer, the technical director at Delaware FC and a scout for U.S. Soccer.

Ryan shares some really good insight on the team and his outlook for 2020 as well as some cool experiences he's had while creating videos for his channel.
