Earlier today, the Minister of State for Local Government, John Paul Phelan, brought proposals to cabinet on what powers might be granted to "directly elected mayors", a new position which is currently being considered for Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford. He spoke to Katie to tell us more.

The Irish Heart Foundation today announced it will give free CPR training to 100,000 members of the public over the next two years. Mary was joined by Brigid Sinnott, Resuscitation Manager at the Irish Heart Foundation, and Geraldine O'Reilly Bolger, a nurse working in St Vincent's Hospital who saved her husband Derek's life with CPR.

"Leave to Remain" is a new photographic exhibition running at the Little Museum of Dublin. It also features personal stories from people who have recently moved to Ireland. Mary spoke to Zak Moradi whose family is originally Kurdish- Iranian and Suad Al Darra, a data scientist and engineer working in Galway who previously lived in Syria.

A new charity set-up to tackle problem gambling is being dismissed as a 'PR exercise'. It comes with growing calls on the Government to update Ireland's almost century-old gambling laws. Special concerns are being expressed over slot machines, with the Government currently having no role in their regulation. Barry Lenihan reports.

Today is the Centenary of the first Marconi radio transmission from Ireland to Canada. A celebration of this historic connection which took place in Ballybunion is being marked by a day of events and the unveiling of a plaque by Marconi's Daughter Princess Elecktra. Last year Haiti was ranked as one of worst countries in the world for overcrowded prisons. On average, more than 70% of those detained in Haiti continue to be held in pre-trial detention, without having been tried. Among women, the pretrial detention rate is over 80%.
