Emancipate Your Mind: 112: The Benefits and Pitfalls of Bonding Over Shared Trauma

Listen Later

Sharing our stories in a safe environment is an important step in healing from trauma. Often we engage in this important step with others who have experienced similar things in their past. When we tell our story and someone else says, “Me too! I get it. I’ve been through something similar” we feel seen, heard, and validated. This feeling can be both empowering and intoxicating.

In this episode we explore the ways that sharing our trauma with others who have experienced similar things can help us release shame, find self compassion, and feel empowered to move through the trauma toward a better life. We also talk about some possible pitfalls to be aware of so that you can navigate successfully through sharing your story, connecting with others, and remaining free to continue healing.
