I love this concept of allowing space between myself today and my future self. Being inspired and curious is something I lean into every day. Yet, not giving in to my fear of failure, not being good enough, and the unknown events that can hinder my personal and professional growth are very real too, and always simmering under the surface.

I remember the first time I was asked to speak in front of over 100 people; I fell flat on my face. It was awful; I feared I had accepted a Regional Sales Manager position where I needed to speak monthly at regional meetings to inspire people to build deeper client relationships and grow their sales. So, what did I do? I cried all the way home, fearing I would fail the following week when I needed to present again. You can imagine it was one tough and very long week building up to that second presentation.

I nervously got back on the horse the following week for my second meeting. I prepared like a crazy person, and I received a standing ovation at the end of the second event. Truthfully, I wanted to burst into tears at the end, thankful that I had completed the presentation without throwing up!

Here's the deal. Everyone is a public speaker. As soon as you open your mouth and start to speak, it is public. Speaking is a brilliant way to reach a bigger audience to build your brand, get known, and get clients. Reality check, most people avoid it due to fear. And it shows up in our lives as procrastination and self-doubt.

So, what did I do? I left to pursue a sales job without a steady paycheck. I chose the sales path because it would allow me to create my desired future and not be told by someone what I was limited to becoming.

The only way to stay relevant is to be continually learning. It never ends!

This is stimulating and exciting, for me because I am a lifelong learner with an inquisitive nature. I am always interested in understanding how things work and why people think the way they do. Humans are fascinating creatures!

My perception of what is happening in academia is unfortunate.

I have friends who have chosen to leave their teaching career earlier than they had ever thought. My friends who have children in school at all grade levels tell me how miserable their kids are, and they feel like they aren't learning what is needed for a healthy, thriving future.

I see so many friends at their wit's end and unsure of what to do.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." This quote hit home for me and the battle I feel I've had with my weight since I was a kid.

I was 5'9" in 8th grade and was taller than everyone, including the boys. I felt like a freak of nature most days. The worst was when we had to get measured for our height and weight during gym class. I was always athletic, so the gym was usually the highlight of the long academic day. That is, until it was time to get on the scale in front of the entire gym class…ugh!

Most of my peers were under 5' tall. So when I got on the scale, and the nurse would call out our weight, it was as if the entire gym went silent, and everyone heard how much I weighed. Can you imagine? It was no fun and embarrassing because I was over 100 pounds while most of my classmates didn't even come close to registering three digits. This experience set a course of feeling insecure about myself and learning to go beyond my limiting beliefs.

I sometimes feel lost in the constant flow of information and the busyness of modern life with no way out. In the past, I have had a nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right or felt like something was missing that I couldn't seem to see or understand.
