I talked a bit last week about learning to not limit my happiness out of guilt but I’ve gone even deeper on that and want to share it with you. About buying a plane ticket to the number one place I’ve wanted to go for my entire life and then sobbing out of fear and sadness and guilt. Well my friends -
Did you know that there is an actual phobia for this? It’s called cherophobia -
When a person has an aversion to being happy.

Today we are continuing our parenting series with an overview of parenting using the enneagram. I wanted to create this episode as a way to lay the framework for the series. I wanted to define parenting goals so that we’re clear what perspective I’m speaking from, to talk about why the enneagram can be helpful in parenting at all along with set some intentions for the upcoming series.

I asked on Instagram if you had questions about the enneagram and parenting in general and I got a ton of responses. There are a few questions that I know I’ll be answering in upcoming episodes like type specific concerns. But, I wanted to answer the ones that I think could possibly go unanswered in future episodes here today!

I have been wanting to do a parenting series here for a little while because I get a lot of questions specifically about parenting. However, I’ve been a bit hesitant because parenting is such a sensitive topic that I don’t want anyone to feel shamed or judged by me and in no way do I think of myself as an expert. However, I recently read two books that have made me feel like we could at least have a conversation about this over here. So, here’s how this is going to go. Today we are going to discuss the four major styles of parenting outside of the enneagram lens just to set us up with a framework, Thursday we will do a brief overview of what to keep in mind as a parent working with the enneagram, then Friday, Tuesday and the following Thursday we will discuss specific enneagram types as parents and what to keep in mind. Then we’ll close it out the following week with a discussion on children and their enneagram types! If you’re not a parent - I understand if you opt-out however, I encourage you to stay because understanding parenting styles and parenting approaches as an adult can help you to understand what your childhood experience was like and what you needed or received as a child.

Let’s talk about what we’re saying really when we call people by their enneagram number. On Tuesday I shared 5 mistakes that I see people make with the enneagram. One of those is replacing people with numbers. I mentioned that it can be objectifying but it can also limit your connection and compassion.
What I mean specifically is when we say to someone, “You’re being such a type 2…” or we say to ourselves, “Im being such a seven right now”
So for today’s episode I wanted to run through each type and what we really mean when we say that as well as offer a question or two that we can ask instead of making that statement.
