Burning man is an annual weeklong gathering in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert where 70,000 people create a temporary city dedicated to art, community, and radical self-reliance - it culminates with the burning of a large wooden effigy called the Man.
Historically I have rolled my eyes at this event. It seems a bit dusty and like a lot of effort to get to the middle of nowhere, bring in all your own drinking water, and food, camp in the heat, and dust storms and then leave no trace. So when I saw my old friend and former E!/Daily 10 host Selema Masekela post about his experience at burning man - I was so curious. Selema said in his post that if there was one thing he would have guaranteed you he’d never do - it would be going to burning man. RELATABLE. Turns out - his experience this past was transformational. In this episode Selema talks about how powerful the struggle, the joy, the lack of judgement and genuine human exchange was - how he’s still getting downloads and processing what he experienced.
In this episode we also discuss.
Selema is an incredible storyteller and he paints a picture of the Burning playa that not only gives me hope for humanity, but it also makes me want to find a camp for 2026.
