[Honoring our brother, Hayne Griffin, who's been doing the Lord's work, with Hayne, Stoy, Amy and Joey]
During the night of the 26th of September, Hurricane Helene took western North Carolina by storm, pun intended. What would follow is complete devastation of houses, businesses, electricity, dependable water supply, roads, and human life. Hear Hayne's story of that night on duty as a firefighter, 16 years experience in his field, as he went to bed anticipating a busy night. He just never in his wildest dreams could have imagined.
Amy, Joey and Stoy sit with Hayne to hear his story, check in on their pal who's carrying a lot right now. They ask clarifying questions to get a clear sense of the current conditions and together reflect on societal observations, including the difference between "people being irresponsible in dangerous situations" and "people simply uneducated and/or lacking the resources to stay safe." Hayne and his family are in the middle of processing the horror and beauty all around them. Special thanks to Hayne, rescue workers and volunteers who help keep us safe. Even when we're dumb.
The conversation wraps on some theology about God and prayer, in the context of natural disasters. But we hit the pause button before we got too far down that road, as we're saving that portion for a part II. We wanted Hayne's story to stand on its own two, on this one.
